Most everyone has some giant in life. For some people a giant could be finances, loneliness, child visitation, being a single parent, a sibling you do not get along with, for some it’s raising teenagers, a physical disability or health problem, or it could be a problem at work.
For my former husband his giant was his ex-wife at times. He would not face off with her when she was angry so I had to deal with her. I did not like dealing with my ex-husband either so I would send my spouse to the door to talk to him.
There are several things we can do with a giant. One is avoidance which is what we did. Unfortunately, with children that is rather hard to do, and later in life there are high school and college graduations, weddings and grand kids. With siblings it may be family reunions that you have to deal with unless you move out of state.
What I find in life is like Jonah, if I try to run from problems, I end up running into them. First, determine what is your giant.
One of my giants when I first became a believer was finishing high school. I decided to attend night school and finish up some credits and then go back to day school to do my senior year. I went to sign up at Northwest High School here in Indy, and the night I went to sign up, I ended up sitting directly across the table from this woman who is over 6’ tall that was always trying to beat me up on a regular basis.
She ran around with motorcycle guys, and she carried a knife. She had decided to make my life hell as a teenager. I ended up sitting directly across the cafeteria table from her, and I had pictures in my mind of getting beat up in the hall at that school by her.
When it came time to register there was a glitch that I could not get the classes I needed. I ended up at Broad Ripple night school. I was “relieved” I avoided getting beat up. What is sad is that I heard this woman had three abortions. It’s sounds like she was taking her problems out on me. I did not have to face that giant (her) at the time. I’ve never ran into that girl again.
I like a glitch. Corrie ten Boom got out of a German concentration camp due to a clerical error (a glitch) or she would have lost her life in the gas chamber.
That was a time in my life where God was saying, “You do not need to fight this battle.” I know that there is a spiritual war going on – it’s God’s war. The victory is mine --- I can accept the victory.
David said to Goliath the “Lord will give you into my hands this day.” 1 Samuel 17:46. It’s the Lord that gave Goliath into David’s hand. It’s the Lord that will crush Satan under our feet as the Body of Christ. Romans 16:20.
There are a number of oppressors I’ve experienced in life. It says to “fight the good fight of faith.” 1 Timothy 6:12. If our faith is fighting than it’s more of a resting. Jesus already faced the giants for me – He said, “I have the keys of death and Hades.” Rev. 1:18
I like this song, “Let God arise, his enemies be scattered, let God arise his enemies be scattered, Let God arise his enemies be scattered, let God, let God arise. When God arose his enemies were scattered, when God arose his enemies were scattered when God arose his enemies were scattered, when God, when God arose. Jesus rose again -- he defeated our enemies.
May God arise now in our life to fight our battles.
God arises, and his enemies are scattered. Those who hate him flee from his presence. Psalm 68:1
Whenever the ark set out, Moses said, "Rise up, O Lord! May your enemies be scattered; may your foes flee before you." Numbers 10:35
