The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life, but violence overwhelms the mouth of the wicked. Proverbs 10:11
There are several fountains we can drink from. We can’t
drink from the ocean water. Swallowing too much of the salt water can
kill us. We don’t want to drink fresh water that is contaminated. I
have a single friend who goes to other countries to purify the water
with water treatment systems. What we drink has an effect on our
bodies.
Those are physical pollutions, there is spiritual
pollution that people insist on drinking from. Polluted streams can
come from their mouth or another person’s mouth. We will reap the fruit
of our mouth, and give an account for every “idle” word we speak
(Matthew 12:36). I was trying to watch this movie called, Funny People,
and it was just too vulgar for me.
I like comedy, but most
of it is focused on sexual innuendoes and the “F” word. I think many
believers don’t realize how carnal we are because we are rather
“desensitized” at times by the world. Washing each other’s feet is to
wash the pollution and filth of this world off. My husband and I one
time went to a Valentine’s Day concert with Amy Grant than later met my
daughter in Bloomington at a comedy club where every word was the “f”
word. It was like light and darkness.
The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit. Proverbs 18:21
The words of a man's mouth are deep waters, but the fountain of wisdom is a bubbling brook. Proverbs 18:4
We are to think on pure thoughts. I don’t see how we can do that at
times with how much corruption/pollution we feed our minds on. I’m not
saying that all we watch is the sappy love stories on the Hallmark
Channel, Little House on the Prairie and the Waltons. I am saying – be
careful little minds what you hear, see, taste, feel and talk about.
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is
right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if
anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things. Philip
4:8
I noticed the recent advertisement of a new exorcism
thriller movie in theaters. These movies seem dark. Even some of the
filming of Batman was so dark that when I tried to watch it one time in a
movie theater outdoors with my son, the movie was too dark, I could
barely see it on the screen. I remember my mother watched that movie
Helter Skelter about Charles Manson when I was younger, and I could not
even stand listening to the music they scored for it, let alone watch
the movie on television.
I had a relative that wanted to
watch, Silence of the Lambs, but I could only sit through half of the
move and left her. Someone told me when they went and saw Cape Fear
they felt like they were beat up after the movie. I just never got a
kick out of those thrasher movies, i.e. Halloween, Friday the 13th or
Freddy Krueger. Life is complicated enough without feeding my mind on
garbage. I consider the garbage I feed my mind – garbage in is going to
produce garbage out like SuperSize Me McDonalds. I even tried to watch
those movies before I became a believer as a young teenager, and they
did not set well with me. I used to watch CSI and my daughters like
Criminal Minds, but it fed too much fear in my mind of people breaking
into my home.
What we meditate on our thoughts and our words
will determine the course of our life. We are supposed to meditate on
the word of God day and night and speak God’s word out of our mouths.
But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. Pslam 1:2
May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in
your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer. Psalm 19:14
The tongue
also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It
corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire,
and is itself set on fire by hell. James 3:6
There is a promise for those of us who have accepted God’s gift of eternal life, we have a pure fountain within us.
Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him." John 7:38
With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation. Isaiah 12:3
"On that day a fountain will be opened to the house of David and the
inhabitants of Jerusalem, to cleanse them from sin and impurity. Zech
13:1
The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, turning a man from the snares of death. Proverbs 14:27, 13:14
Solomon warned young men that to go astray with an adulterous woman was
drinking from a foreign well. He should have listened to his own
advise because his 1000 wives and concubines lead his heart astray.
Drink water from your own cistern, running water from your own well.
Should your springs overflow in the streets, your streams of water in
the public squares? Let them be yours alone, never to be shared with
strangers. May your fountain be blessed, and may you rejoice in the wife
of your youth. Proverbs 5:15-18
Stolen water is sweet; food eaten in secret is delicious!" Proverbs 9:17
Swarms of living creatures will live wherever the river flows. There
will be large numbers of fish, because this water flows there and makes
the salt water fresh; so where the river flows everything will live.
