Not Becoming Lot's Wife---

We don't even know Lot's wife name? It's rumored her name was Edith or Adith.

A problem with Lot’s wife is that she lost her salt. Lot and her made no difference to their society. It's desiring/loving this world and becoming too carnal. It's placing a higher value on this world than spiritual things. Esau had that problem too.  Hebrews 12:6.  We are the salt of the earth, but we can lose our salt it says than we are not good for anything (as far as reaching others).

You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. Matthew 5:13

Before corporate America cleaned itself up, I worked jobs where men would pass around pornography videos, tell dirty jokes every day, and pass around Playboy magazines. I worked three different jobs like that and I flat out told the managers that as a Christian, I could not work there so I did make a difference, maybe not to those employees, but to the managers I said, "I can't work in this type of environment."

I asked my husband when we were first dating since he said he was an estimator for a construction company if he was flirtatious with women, or go to strip bars and participate with his fellow workers who did those type of things, and he assured me that he was a professional.

Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. 1 John 2:15

But then I’ve met some believers who have separated themselves and are so far removed from civilization they are non-effectual. Paul talked about an “effectual” door:

For a great door and effectual is opened unto me, and there are many adversaries. 1 Cor. 16:9
That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus. Phil. 1:6

If Daniel would have been concerned about being contaminated by false gods, since he was captive in Babylon he would have been in great trouble. We tend to think of false gods as wood, stone, and gold/silver. We can worship what we make with our hands or worship the God who made our hands. But there are others things that can get in our way of our fellowship with God and one is being wise in our own eyes and seeking things on this earth.

Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes and clever in their own sight. Isaiah 5:21
Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Col. 3:1

What happened in Daniel’s time is the same thing that happened in Moses and in Joseph’s time. None of the current magicians and soothsayers were wise enough to help in time of crisis. Eventually God’s children will get wiser and lead many to righteousness. We all have some influence in this world and we can lead others astray or lead others to a good path in life.

Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever. Daniel 12:3

We are not to separate ourselves from the world as far as from the unbelievers, but from a carnal way of thinking, believing and acting. Separation from this world is not separation from unbelievers:

not at all meaning the people of this world who are immoral, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters. In that case you would have to leave this world.
1 Cor. 5:10

I had this one teenage girl who spent the night at our home when my children were teens, and she would not go home. I finally told her – “You have to go home, you can’t live at my house!” Two days later the police came to tell me she had run away from home.

She had gone to church with us on Sunday and I was in actress in this small church in a play, and she asked, “Did you make that play for me.” I told her of course not it was just a general play, but I guess the play spoke directly to her. Later, she sent a letter to my daughters she had moved to Texas to her mother’s house, because her dad was an alcoholic and they were having problems.

I believe we made “some” difference to this teen girl. There are many ways we can make a difference to people, and one is to ask God to show us how we can make a difference. God how can I make it count? How do I make my one chad vote count? How do I make my life count in this world?
