I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to
overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. Luke 10:19
I've never been bitten by a snake, but I was bitten by a scorpion when I was at this Christian campgrounds in Arkansas. I was staying in a friend's home in the mountains, and one got in my shoe and stung me. Man, did it hurt. I don't believe it was the poisonous type because my foot swelled up, but I did not have any complications. I just had the elders at this outdoor campmeeting lay hands and pray for my foot.
There are two types of snakes, the poison kind and the non-poison type. One thing I've found that trials have taught me is a greater dependance on God. Joyce Meyer talked about that in becoming mature Christians and to do the type of ministry she is going to do that if she is going to stay alive in this world, than she has to have a closer walk with God. I've had so many "near" misses in life.
Recently, the leader of the missionary group I used to be in as a young adult, went to help someone by giving them a car, and he got in serious car accident. He could be crippled right now. I understand he has a 10" scar on his back. I was supposed to go to a tent revival reunion he was organizing in Illinois this week, but this got stopped. Paul talked about how "he would have come to them over and over, but Satan stopped him."
For we wanted to come to you--certainly I, Paul, did, again and again--but Satan blocked our way. 1 Thess. 2:8
I signed up to get back into the girl's prison ministry and then the Christian volunteer coordinator had a heart attack at 42 years old playing basketball and my husband had a heart attack two months later. The volunteer program was in disarray for two years. The Girl's prison ministry moved to Madison, Indiana so now they are not near my house anymore. I have to consider if I will be going to the hard core women's prison which moved there which is quite different than teens stealing cars.
To me grace is the ability to face each and every trial (go in a lion's den or a furnace) and not give into the enemy and the temptation to sin, fear or crumble. My temptations is to go along with my flesh at times. I agree with Paul when he said that there nothing good in his flesh. It's the spirit that is willing, but the flesh is weak. Jesus said the words he spoke were spirit and life. So when I take in his words, I'm taking in life.
Read and meditate on man's words or listen to television, we are not getting something that is "life" producing unless it is inspired by God.
The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you--they are full of the Spirit and life. John 6:63
I remember when I was dating my fiancé, I had asked him to wake me up at 5:00 a.m. because my alarm did not work. I was a single mother at 21 years old with my son in an apartment alone and I just had a new land line installed. I had a roommate where I felt safer, but then she moved out. This is right after I left a Christian missionary group. The only one who knew my phone number was my finance and the phone man who installed it. Right before 5:00 a.m. I woke up but then the phone rang, and I thought it was my fiancé and it was this obsence phone call.
After his words, my response to the man was “You need to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and savior” and he hung up. It ministered fear to me. That phone call did not minister grace to me “the hearer” –it was not God using Satan to wake me up. It was Satan tying to deceive me that he does God’s bidding.
The gift was not a “positive” gift. I asked for my fiancé to wake me up and instead of a fish or him waking me up—I got a snake in life. My fiancé said he overslept his alarm. I was reading this book and it talked about how we can have an internal time clock in us and we really don’t have to be dependent on alarm clocks and most of the time that is true. I woke up right before 5:00 a.m. and most of the time I wake up before my alarm, unless I did not get enough sleep the night before.
Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! Matthew 7:9-11.
Whenever we get a snake in life,” I like what Joyce Meyer said, “If a package of Cobra snakes comes to our door from India, than put ‘Refused, return to sender,” We don’t have to acknowledge the package from Satan. “Satan, you can have your fear, sickness and poverty back, I don’t want it.” If it does not minister grace, we know that the gift is not from God. I like how it talks about “multiplication” and it’s grace and peace through the knowledge of God and Jesus.
Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, 2 Peter 1:2
Mercy unto you, and peace and love, be multiplied. Jude 1:2
If we are going to overpower a vessel, first we will attack the vessel, and then we can lay seize of it or overpower it. If the people on the boat are more powerful than us, we may move off your attack to a later date. Right after I lost my husband, I had a dream that I was choking an evil man and he was choking me back. It was a very intense struggle. The evil man started doing Chinese torture in the middle of my mind with his two fingers. Attacks on finances, children, family members, belongings and health are two-fold.
A physical thief can rob and steal our things, but also they can unnerve us and steal our peace of mind that they will still come back and rob from us again. I know when I had someone break in our mini-van in 2-3 minutes out of Krannert pool at Indy Parks, I was more concerned about him having my husband’s driver’s license than he ruined my lock and my husband’s wallet and watch stolen. It was an attack of my peace of mind that the thief would have another attack at our house.
We know this scripture confirms “testings” can be positive or negative. It’s how we handle the testings. I had a relative that went forward to the altar, was water baptized, but when he built a podium for his pastor and someone at church made a negative comment about the podium he built for the pastor, he got offended, and left church and he never went back to church again up until the time he passed away. Sometimes it’s hard to separate what church people have done is not from Jesus, criminals from their crime, what is of God and what is of Satan!
The seed falling on rocky ground refers to someone who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. Matthew 13:-20-21
He did not “continue” in God’s word. I find many believers become Christians and they stay babies, they don’t continue in God’s word.
So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed Him, "If you continue in My word, you really are My disciples. John 8:31
Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me John 15:4
Many times I say this out loud, “The greater one lives in inside of me, He inside of me is capable of facing every difficulty that I am faced with today.”
This scripture in Chronicles reminds me of that scripture that Jesus said, “greater is he that is within me than he that is in the world.”
2 Chronicles 32:7 "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged because of the king of Assyria and the vast army with him, for there is a greater power with us than with him.
You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. 1 John 4:4
Sometimes its hard to focus on the greater one lives inside of us because like Peter we focus on the winds and the waves around us or we focus on our own ability. Grace is God's ability in us.
