God's Navy Seals - a Lone Survivor

I was with my friend watching that true story and the movie “Lone Survivor” about Navy Seals where one guy had a bullet in his head, a bullet in his gut and one in his leg.  One had his fingers blown off.  My friend say, “Mary, they train them to just keep on fighting.”   There is something to be said for keep on fighting the enemy.

Reminds me of that quote by Martin Luther King, Jr. who said, “If you can't fly then run, if you can't run then walk, if you can't walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.”

Only as God’s children, we don’t need to crawl.

I can’t count how many times Jesus said to a crippled man, “Take up your bed and walk.” Or Peter said, “Silver and gold I don’t have, but such as I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ rise up and walk.”

We can come "boldly" before the throne of grace to find mercy to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16

Paul the apostle was like a Navy Seal, he kept on going.  Samson, although he had his eyes plucked out, he killed more Philistines in his death than in his life.  David was a fighter in life too.  He had many battles. Like the Navy Seals, Samson trusted the enemy (Delliah), when they should have not trusted them, but at least Karma came back to the one where he received mercy from a town.

When I am holding up the promises to God like Corrie ten Boom did, this is not a promise that I hold up and  quote.

strengthening the souls of the disciples, encouraging them to continue in the faith, and saying that through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God.  Acts 14:22

Of course not, I would rather wake up and say, “Good things are happening to me today, I am blessed.  Good things are going to happen to me in 2014."   Focus on the positive.  Don't focus on what we can't do, what we don't have, our needs, our wants. "God is our shepherd I shall not want."  "God shall supply all our need according to his riches in glory." "I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me."

When we are fighting the good fight of faith it says make a good confession:

Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses. 1 Timothy 6:12

We are also to have perseverance like those Navy Seals.

Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.  No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier. 2 Timothy 2:3-4

Therefore, among God's churches we boast about your perseverance and faith in all the persecutions and trials you are enduring. 2 Thess 1:4

As believers, we are told that our warfare is not carnal.  It’s not weapons of mass destruction, it’s not machine guns, grenades and missiles and our enemy is not people.  It’s not the Taliban.  I think sometimes we focus too much on people and not enough on the spiritual warfare going on in life.

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Ephesians 6:12

I’ve had several dreams about fighting evil men.  At least three when I first became a Christian, one when I married my husband, and at least five after I lost my husband.  One I dreamed that an evil man with a dark cape came against me and I said the “blood of Jesus” three times and he went away in my dream.

They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death. Rev. 12:11

David had rather a cocky attitude when he was with Saul in his palace. My understanding is that Saul threw the javelin at David twice.  What is interesting is that David was willing to let God take care of Saul even though it took many years rather than seek revenge and deal with the problem himself.  That takes a lot of patience.

We live at times below our rights and privileges in Jesus Christ.  I’m a child of God and like David said that Goliath had no covenant with God, I have a covenant with God only the circumcision is in my heart, not of man.   Goliath intimidated Saul and all the warriors of Israel because they did not understand their covenant with God.

We can be too much like the older brother in the Bible that don’t take advantage of our privileges in being a son or daughter of God.

One way we take advantage is that we are to “say” to a mountain or difficulty be removed and cast into the sea.  It says to “say” it three times.  Any time I’ve seen something in three’s it’s very important.

For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Mark 11:23

Whoso offereth(the sacrifice of)  praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of God. Psalm 50:23
