No Reward Is Worth This

Han Solo says on the movie Star Wars IV when he first meets Princess Leia, “No reward is worth this.” He was referring to rescuing her and getting money for it, but she was bossing him around.

It’s the same thought I have when I sit down with a single man and within ten minutes he tells me he drinks too much beer, cusses a lot and he has anger problems with his ex-girlfriend.   No man is worth that.

I’m glad I had a reward to come home from work for 14+ years and my spouse felt the same way.  At times in dealing with teenagers at home, it made life more bearable.  The problem I had with divorce is I had five mouths to feed and very little rewards as a single parent.

No offense to the children, but remarriage was like having something to look forward to at the end of the day rather than more work. I am counting on love after death, just like there was love after divorce.  I'm also counting on rewards when I go home from this life.

God appeared to Abram (Abraham) and told him that he was his exceeding reward.

After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, saying, "Do not fear, Abram, I am a shield to you; Your reward shall be very great." Genesis 15:1

There are times I noticed that people lose their first love in marriage, family, or ministry.  It can become a duty after awhile ---a wife or husband is only fulfilling a marital duty.

I've noticed that some pastors are like having a professional business focused on a building rather than loving and serving.  Robert Schuller's son said his dad got too focused on a building.  It's more like professional sports rather than college or high school sports where they have lost the heart or "love of the game."

There is nothing wrong with ambition, Paul Crouch was very ambitious for the Lord for TBN with several television stations.  The Bible warns about selfish ambition.

What it all boils down to is the love of the man or woman in our lives, the love of our children, the love of the Lord in what we do for people, ministry and job -- we are to work and do everything "as unto the Lord."

Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Colossians 3:23
