I found the stresses in just surviving in being a single mother are enormous. I remember when I was trying to support my son as a receptionist at a bank in Florida through a temporary service. They let me go just because one of the older executive women did not like my personality. It was not based on my performance, but personality. I was crushed. I had my son to support and a woman had me terminated. I was glad when I was able to change over to positions that were more performance based and I could use my computer skills.
I have a very glamorous role in the Body of Christ. I work for the damage control unit. I believe every minister or Christian who opens his/her mouth should preference his/her speech with a disclaimer like on television and radio. The disclaimer is the views and opinions of this vessel/person are not necessary the views and opinions of the establishment/management (almighty God).
It’s the number of offensive statements people make to others who are hurting and they come to church and then those people who are already broken and hurting get farther knocked down. (For we all stumble in many ways. And if anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle his whole body. James 3:2).
Jesus said Peter’s mouth was a stumbling block. (Jesus turned and said to Peter, "Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men." Matthew 16:23)
One of the biggies I found in being divorced or widowed is condemnation on seeking a marriage partner. Most of these are divorced singles or young ministers. My friend told me her pastor moved on very soon after the death of his wife to cancer. You won’t hear these critical cuts against marriage from those who have gone through loss if they were in a good relationship. So this pastor was used to having his physical needs met and in order to not to stumble his congregation moved on early. I think every pastor should be able to change places for a week and be a single mother. Many Christians totally ignore these scriptures: (Learn to do good. Seek justice. Help the oppressed. Defend the cause of orphans. Fight for the rights of widows. Isaiah 1:17). (Defend the cause of the weak and fatherless; maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed Psalm 82:3) I know one church that has a garage that offers free oil changes to single women. (Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. James 1:27)
David warned that people were like bees in his life. If you raise the shield of faith then the bees may sting you, but you can develop a resistance against the bee stings. The serums for snake bites is the very venom of the snake. So although we get stung in life by what people say, we can get a resistance built up over time and for me it’s praying for those who make the rude comments out of their mouths. (They surrounded me like bees; They were extinguished as a fire of thorns; In the name of the Lord I will surely cut them off. Psalm 118:12)
My comment if you are standing in faith for a godly man or woman is that YOU CAN MAKE IT, YOU CAN MAKE IT, YOU CAN MAKE IT.
In the last days men will forbid to marry 1 Tim 4:3, marriage is honorable in all (Hebrews 13:4) God said it’s not good for man to be alone (Genesis 2:18), it’s better to marry than to burn in lust 1 Cor. 7:9, to avoid fornication let “every” man have his own wife and “every” woman have her own husband 1 Cor. 7:2, he who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor of the Lord. Proverbs 18:22
Continue to stand in faith and exercise the patience of Job. Part of Job’s patience was praying for his friends who were annoying. What is annoying? Saying things out of their mouths that were not from God. God corrected Job’s friends and Job’s part was to “pray for them!” (After Job had prayed for his friends, the Lord made him prosperous again and gave him twice as much as he had before Job 42:10)
