The first Jurassic Park movie, they were sitting around eating ice cream and people were dying and being attacked by dinosaurs and the woman makes a comment how wonderful the ice cream is. The head of the theme park makes the same comment over and over in the movie, and he says, “We spared no expense.” It is hard to appreciate the Jurassic theme park manager “spared no expense” when people are having their arms and legs torn off and eaten by dinosaurs.
He who did not "spare" his own Son, but gave him up for us all--how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? Romans 8:32
So who cares that God did not spare his son for me when I am being chased by dinosaurs in life?
C.S. Lewis wrote that losing his wife to death was like losing his right arm and having a stub to always remind him it was missing. I’m speaking for every woman out there is that when a dinosaur tears our arm off in life, we want our arm back. Our arm is valuable.
Tonight, my family ate at Olive Garden for my daughter's birthday, and a friend got us a discount who works for a franchise restaurant. I like discounts and I like to cut corners to save money. My daughter’s friend from Australia complimented me on my Dolce and Gabbana purse. I bought the designer purse that originally sells for $240.00 for $60.00. My daughter had a vendor who was selling Coach purses for the same price. My other daughter has a fake Prada bag, if it was real it would be worth $2K. My husband liked to take our boat to a garage mechanic to repair it, but he put on car parts instead of boat parts so I ended up spending more money to fix the same boat parts over again. I now take the boat only to a professional for repairs. Most people like to cut corners.
God did not cut corners. The temple that Solomon built, Solomon spared no expense. God sent his son into the world and God sent His best. Not only that it says that with Jesus, God wants to give us all things.
along with him, graciously give us all things? Romans 8:32
Getting closer to Jesus—the things come with Jesus.
What is the answer in being in the land of Jurassic Park? Fight back. That is one thing I have learned in life is not to let people or circumstances walk all over me.
Once in a while the enemy likes to attack me with guilt. Guilt about what I am not doing in life. Then I like to look at the patriarchs in the Bible and I see that both Abraham and Jacob who had a strong relationship with God did not do so well after they lost their wives. Then I realize that yes, I am still human, and I am in need of a Messiah (savior) in life to overcome the dinosaurs or giants of death.
There were giants in the promise land that frighten the children of Israel. In my life losing four family members to death is a giant. Now, I’m looking to tear up a few dinosaurs in life. It says that God prepares or spreads a table in the midst of my enemies like that good ice cream. What are my enemies in life? Jealousy, strife (disunity) among believers, hatred, discouragement, sickness, among others enemies.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Psalm 23:5
The last "enemy" to be destroyed is death. 1 Cor. 15:26
I find in the land of Jurassic Park we are fighting dinosaurs. I can’t be around people (or dinosaurs) that nibble away at my faith and chew on me-- bring bad reports in life. I keep my faith vision out there. Either you have faith that you will have a good marriage relationship or you are going to flop. Who wants to believe for added failure in life? I had one successful marriage, I want another one.
One of the quotes in the movie by Dr. Ian Malcolm was “I'm always on the lookout for the future ex-Mrs. Malcolm.”
Malcolm had a pessimistic nature, and people can have pessimism about their future at times. For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he. Proverbs 23:7. I don't make plans for failure in a relationship or friendship or a job, I plan for success. There have been times that a college class, job or a relationship “kicked my butt.”
Look at a lion and they are pretty bold. I've heard about lions coming in the middle of a camp and attacking people. We are to be as bold as lions. I don’t believe too many lions will cow down or run from a dinosaur attack.
The wicked man flees though no one pursues, but the righteous are as bold as a lion. Proverbs 28:1
I find that many times the enemy is out to taunt me with what I don’t have (losing my arm in life). It’s much like Hannah got tormented by her other husband’s wife in that she did not have children and Hagar tormented Sarah when she got pregnant.
Satan, remember Jesus stripped you of your power. You are bound over my life! I am reminding you that your time is going to be short on this earth just like my husband Mike’s time was short.
And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross. Colossians 2:15
Therefore rejoice, you heavens and you who dwell in them! But woe to the earth and the sea, because the devil has gone down to you! He is filled with fury, because he knows that his time is short." Revelation 12:12
God sent Jesus to be born in a stable with animal dung rather than the Ritz Hotel. He was severely beaten, mocked, kicked and suffered on the cross so we individually can be back in union with God like Adam and Eve knew God. God sent his son to die for his worst enemy. I can't imagine letting my son or daughter die for my worst enemy. The scripture above says that God spared no expense like the Jurassic theme park manager. Jesus paid the full price for our sins. (You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Romans 5:6)
It's easy to forget that God spared no expense when we are running from dinosaurs in our life. Time to turn around and fight them back! It’s a spiritual warfare.
The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 2 Cor. 10:4
Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses. 1 Timothy 6:12
One of the ways I fight back is to help others getting attacked by dinosaurs in life too. It like it says in the Bible, “Its more blessed to give than receive.” Acts 20:35
