Death by Mistake---Good Choice/Bad Choice

Many Christians I have met are Calvinists. They believe in predestination. I believe in life that many things are determined by our free will choice. If this were not true than why would the Bible talk about learning to "walk in the spirit."

Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit's leading (keep in step with the Spirit) in every part of our lives. Galatians 5:25
So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won't be doing what your sinful nature craves. Galatians 5:16

When my former husband and I were coming back from ministering at a church in Wisconsin late, I was driving through Atlanta, Georgia behind a semi that slowed down in the right lane. I was annoyed and wanted to pass him, but for some reason I hesitated. Within a few feet there was an overturned car and no emergency vehicles had arrived on the scene yet.   The semi was blocking my line of sight.  If I would have passed him most likely my former husband, my unborn children (twins I was 7 months pregnant with and those I had not had yet) and myself would have been killed.

My daughter Paula would not be in Africa on a mission this last week, and I would not be typing this blog. My exercise of patience saved our lives. That "hesitation" I've done many times at stop lights where a person ran a red light and other people have told me the same thing.

I had another episode with a semi-truck a couple of years ago where one stopped to let me turn left in front of it on Rockville Road at a red light, and a young college age student was in a hurry to get around him and was not cautious when he was passing it.  He hit my bumper as I was turning left in front of the semi, and spun my SUV around about 180 degrees.  A friend in the car sprained her foot and the man who hit me only sprained his hand, but afterwards, I had a rebuke from the Lord and He said, "Don't you remember how dangerous semi-trucks are because people can't see around them and many times they make mistakes like you almost made that mistake and passed one."   It was because at the time, I was listening to my friend to turn left, and my head, rather than my heart.

When I was supporting my husband in Bible college in Tulsa, Oklahoma, I worked this job where I was under oppression. It was lewd conversation of a co-worker in an open environment. She knew my husband was going to Bible College, but she chose to do certain things and say certain things that bothered me day in and day out. It was like Lot. I ended up having a miscarriage of our first child during that job. I believe it was a spiritual attack on my life at the time. I've had friends who had physical attacks that were actually a spiritual attack of their health.

After the miscarriage, I went to the manager and I told him I could not work in that environment. He said she had seniority and he would not correct her about her continual sexual comments every day. She had brought pictures of naked men at the bars she would go to and passed them around. I had not looked at the pictures, she was boasting about going to them. I left a good job with benefits.

When I moved to Indianapolis my first job the manager was smoking marijuana in the restroom, the salesmen at my job were passing around porno movies in the office and the accounting manager was telling me she was going to hell for forging invoices and overcharging customers so the salesmen could use the money to go on fishing trips. There is no job worth going to hell over, even if it does have benefits. I left to work temp jobs on both of these situations to have "peace of mind."

I spoke to another Christian man who had the same problem with that company as a salesman on trips when the other salesmen would smoke marijuana in hotel rooms when he had to share a room on business. He left the job too.  Following our conscience or the inner voice of our spirit is important in spiritual warfare that comes in our life.

This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live. Duet. 30:19

My spouse had a problem in not following the voice of his spirit when his heart problems started when he was fasting for a colonoscopy, he developed indigestion, but the heart monitor did not pick up any problems.  But then he had chills and fever after the colonoscopy which could have been an infection, and he did not get that checked out and had a massive heart attack and died instantly a few days later.

There are just some things in life it's not worth ignoring the warning signs of life physically, or spiritually. I know my husband is in a better place, but I know how much his children would have liked for him to be around in life for his grandchildren, same with my children.

May you live to see your children's children-- peace be on Israel. Psalm 128:6
With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation." Psalm 91:16
