Beloved, do not
believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, 1
John 4:1
One thing I liked about the former X-Files show is they had this
group of free thinkers/hackers that believed the government was covering up secrets, called "The Lone Gun Men." Scully thought Mulder and them were all paranoid and into
self-importance, until one day she was playing with a pen and when she took it apart, she found a bug in
the pen. Their conversations were being
recorded.
In the same way, I’ve met several gullible people that
believe everything they read and hear. I
remember when I was in a Christian missionary group at 19 years old and I used
to read the newspaper of what they said about our group that traveled around
the U.S. It was slanted to read a
certain way depending on the newspaper that was reporting it for each city so I lost my
faith in open journalism.
The Berean Jews were “commended” because they searched the
scriptures daily to see if what Paul was preaching was true. It's not accepting everything "hook, line and sinker.' It says they were of noble character because
of it.
Now the Berean
Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received
the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see
if what Paul said was true. Acts 17:11
I had a daughter who as a child said she did not like
tuna. I did not know if she was just
being “picky” so I made a tuna casserole and I told her it was chicken. I was trying to deceive her just to see if
she really did not like tuna. She tasted
it and she said, “This tastes like tuna, this smells like tuna.” I than realized that she really does not like
tuna, she was not just being a picky eater.
If something happens to us in life and all our five physical
senses tell us it’s evil, it smells evil, it tastes evil, than I will concur
it’s evil. “I smell a rat in life or
tuna fish.”
I lost a former
brother-in-law who was an avid surfer to a sudden death by drowning fishing at night, and although it was ruled an
accidental death “everyone” felt there was foul play involved. He was a believer, but it's my understanding that he was possibly being a narcotics snitch.
It smelled evil, it tasted evil, it felt evil ----it was
evil. It was very strange because my
former brother-in-law said that he did not feel that he would live past his 29thbirthday, he died right before his 30th birthday.
When I married my husband I had a red flag/warning right
before I married him he was going to have a short life. I just wish I know what I know now. I
may not have been able to prevent his
death, but I’m starting to understand “warnings” in my spirit. Just like
my husband had several heart attack warnings or symptoms he did not pay
attention to the week of his heart attack thinking it was just his
asthma (tightness of the chest).
My friend Scott and I were boating
on the lake, and I had invited some international students with us from
my work, and he had a warning in
his mind about possible deer that may be a problem. As soon as we left the lake, a fawn ran into
my car and did $1600 in damage. It’s best whenever you have a “warning” in
your spirit to stop everything and pray.
I did that when a branch came down during a gust of wind and
crashed on my windshield blocking my view, it was at the exact same time that
the Indiana State Fair stage fell down so I immediately starting praying
for those people. It was an “attack” and
at times, I feel the intercession for others as the “Body of Christ.”
I've
had attacks the same weekend that other people had attacks. A woman I
worked with when I told her I got in an argument with my husband at 7:00
p.m. on Friday night, she told me her husband and her got in an
argument on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. My husband and I barely argued and
I don't think she argued very much with her husband after 35-years of
marriage.
I wonder when Paul talked about why people get sick and die because
they don't discern the Lord's body if we are not picking up intercession
for others and understand spiritual warfare. What Christ did for us on
the cross in taking our sicknesses and diseases, but also our place in
the Body of Christ.
For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment on himself. That is why many of you are weak and sick and some have even died. 1 Cor. 11:30
God did not cause the storm when the disciples were in a panic in the boat. Jesus rebuked it and said, "Peace be still." Sometimes I've rebuked storms over people's lives and said, "Peace be still" to their soul. David talked about "quieting" his soul.
It says to visit the widow and the orphan in their affliction – it does not say
it’s a blessing from God in disguise. It
also tells us that “many” are the afflictions of the righteous but the Lord
delivers us out of them all. Psalm 34:19…I’m always looking for the Lord’s
deliverance out of a situation.
Like this one holiness woman preacher used to say, “Some
through the fire, some through the flood, but all through the blood.”
I had a situation when I was dating my first husband and I
asked him to wake me up at 5:00 a.m. for a new job. I
happened to wake up right before 5:00 a.m., but then I had a phone call on my
brand new phone and it was an obscene phone call. I told the man “You need to give your life to
Jesus,” but I remember the fear that tried to grip my heart that I was living
alone in an apartment with my son. And I
just got a new land line that day so I was wondering if it was the phone man
who installed my line and if he was a stalker.
Satan was trying to convince me that he does God’s
bidding. I find that he is self-employed.
It tells us that he goes back and forth in all the earth seeking “whom
he may devour.” We are to resist him
stedfast in the faith.
Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. But resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren who are in the world. 1 Peter 4:8-9
What I have found is that many attacks have been to get me
to not do the will of God in my life.
When I first joined a Christian missionary group at 19 years old my
grandfather passed away at the same time, I had many attacks in that ministry serving God and I
find like John the Baptist, the important thing is when I am doing the will of
God not to get offended at the attacks.
I take a period of “rest” like it talks about in Hebrews to
wait on God and I try to cease from my own works or my own activity because I
want to be spirit-led.
When Jesus told the man who lost his father, “Let the dead
bury the dead, come and follow me.” I
believe he was saying, “Don’t let anything keep you back from the will of God.”
Jesus did not even let a pathological liar
like Judas keep him back. I’ve met
several people who are compulsive liars and they won’t admit there is anything wrong
with them or if they hurt someone they seem to block it out. Fortunately, a couple of them I had in the
past, asked me to forgive them so they eventually came around to realizing they
had a problem as an adult. At the end of Judas life he realized he did Jesus wrong.
We have “bigger" fish to fry and at times I’ve found
that besides an attack to keep me out of the will of God, the enemy sent a
counterfeit that looks like the real McCoy before the real one comes. It happened to me in a relationship before I met my spouse.
A strategic enemy will go attack the heart besides the mind and the
body.
Watch over your heart with all
diligence, For from it flow the springs of life. Proverbs 4:23
I
just want to be more "ruthless" in destroying the enemy's camp any way I
can. I would like to crack into his database of souls like the Lone Gun
Men.
