I enjoyed seeing the movie Family Man with actor Nicholas Cage. It’s about a single man who spends most of his time working. His wife is his job. An angel gives him a chance to see what it is like to have two children and a wife. He does not ask for the opportunity to know what it is like, it’s a gift from God to wake up one morning and become a family man.
At first, it is quite an adjustment. He looks at his clothes’ closet and despises the clothes he has to wear with scraping by on a mediocre salary providing for his wife and children. He gets in an argument with his wife at a shopping mall when he wants to buy an expensive suit for himself. His wife said it would have to come out of the children’s college fund. She made a comment that the man she married does not have to have a new suit to make himself feel better about his life. Many people in life think they have to have a new wife/husband, sports car, motorcycle, new house, new job, new furniture to feel better about themselves. What they currently have is not good enough.
The single man is not happy about changing diapers and living the family life, but then he starts liking it. There are certain battles I’ve fought in life as far as attitudes of people concerning anti-marriage and anti-family. My attitudes regarding large families were framed growing up in that I admired two Catholic families in my neighborhood that had over seven children each. I remember thinking that God had made a mistake in having me born with a sister 12-years older, and a brother 5-years older. I wanted to be a sister of one of the Catholic families down the street. I loved playing with them. We had our own neighborhood baseball and kickball team intact. In the summer, we would have a Monopoly game going for a whole week. Play a little bit and leave the board out, and come back and play some more. My mother could barely get me to come in and eat dinner, I wanted to stay outside in the dark and play hide n' go seek.
Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are sons born in one's youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their enemies in the gate. Psalm 127:5
A quiver of arrows is a case full of arrows so at least five sons. I had five children myself, but not five strapping boys. Boys carry on the lineage of the father. I can’t even imagine how many children it would take to have five boys! When my husband and I were building our home, we told the home builders (seller) to tell people on our cul-de-sac thinking about building homes that a large family was moving in. Give all the homeowners forewarning! My husband and I decided that seven children between us was enough and I had two children who went to heaven (babies that did not make it after six weeks in my womb and my husband had one son in a previous marriage who died of SIDS after birth at six weeks old). We decided we were not going to be like the television show: Eight is Enough, or the movie: Yours, Mine and Ours, we were sticking with the television show: 7th Heaven.
My husband always wanted a large family and in marrying me he met his goal in life. I met my goal for my own baseball/kickball team and we did go to a baseball field at parks and schools with our family. In having so many children, we had plenty of their friends around the house as extra bonuses. Not having a child with my husband was nice, for by that time, I was starting to feel like a baby machine.
I won the award for the most children at my 20th high school class reunion. When I accepted the plaque, I told everyone it was from playing with too many Barbie dolls with my next door neighbor boy. Someone at the next celebration received the award for the most grandchildren (I gladly deferred that award). Mine was a highly coveted award (a plaque with an “x” through a box of birth control pills). You should have seen the “least hair award.” I’ve received different awards in college and years of service awards/staff council leadership at work, and some people receive the highest awards in sports such as the gold, silver or bronze Olympic medals. How appropriate for the most children award. God’s word says sons are arrows in the hand of a warrior and we are blessed when we have quiver full of sons. My nephew's wife was from a missionary family of 13 children. My youngest daughter says she wants to have five children.
Some people don’t want to live next to large families and there was persecution we received in having a large family. With a step-family it can be from ex-spouses in underminding our authority. For me, it was that my husband took on such a heavy load with all my children, but that was his choice. Sometimes the more kids, the more grief. My husband would get upset whenever my son moved his comb out of the shower. I rarely can find a disposal razor to use, because they come up missing in my bathroom. Those are minor nuances in having children, and children can bring on major problems. I can identify with God at times in that He wanted to have a family, but then he regretted making man:
The Lord saw how great man's wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time. The Lord was grieved that he had made man on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain. Genesis 6:5-6
In moving towards a disposable mentality we are conditioned to disposable relationships. I can tell many people don’t understand long term marriages or friendships, especially a Christian marriage. More and more, marriage is treated with contempt and people don’t give it honor and respect. We are in a society that sees marriage as disposable and we don’t hold it to the honor that God bestows on it. Many in a relationship do not take adultery seriously. Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral. Hebrews 13:4
Some quote Paul in the Bible to promote singleness, but consider if your parents and relatives had the attitude to be single than you would have not been born and Paul would have been the last man standing. My parents were rather Victorian as far as not displaying much affection around me and sometimes I wonder if I was hatched, but I was born.
Religions like Islam are trying to take over the world without firing a single shot by procreating and having at least five children. Christians are preaching being single so we are under-populating the world and mostly Catholicism believes in procreating their faith. I’ve seen a revival with Catholics and it seems they are the ones that are carrying the torch right now for populating the world with their faith. I do not believe in getting paranoid about a religion taking over the world, I am only passing on what the goal is of Islam. As Christians we are to pray and let God lead the direction of our lives in raising children and love our neighbors and pray them into God’s kingdom.
Paul was saying to use singleness in honor and service to God, because you have more time than being distracted with a husband or wife and many children. Some Christians put a yoke of bondage in condemning others in seeking to get married.
They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth 1 Timothy 4:3
The Messiah has set us free so that we may enjoy the benefits of freedom. So keep on standing firm in it, and stop putting yourselves under the yoke of slavery again. Galatians 5:1
When my husband passed away at first I was not sure if I should take off my wedding ring. Many widows don’t take off their wedding ring. I had never taken off my wedding ring for over 14 years and he had did not take off the ring I gave him the whole marriage. He honored his wedding vow to me. Previously, I had an ex-spouse who would not wear his wedding ring I gave him very much. I took that as one sign that my husband was the right person for me, because he would wear his wedding band. My favorite ring is a sapphire ring my husband received from his parents as a tie tack at their 50th wedding anniversary as a gift. I made the stone into a ring and it represents longevity in marriage. My husband and I did not make it to a long marriage, but that was not our choice. Divine providence had a choice in our destiny. In God's eyes, our marriage was holy. I realize that many times as widows, we can take what is holy and try to share it with others who don’t understand a sacred relationship.
Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and then turn and tear you to pieces. Matthew 7:6
For the unbelieving husband has been sanctified through his wife, and the unbelieving wife has been sanctified through her believing husband. Otherwise your children would be unclean, but as it is, they are holy. 1 Cor. 7:14
Elderly people may eventually become disposable in shutting them away in nursing homes or Euthanasia. Hitler considered that there were certain misfits of society which included anyone with handicaps and the Jewish race. He had doctors do experiments on people rather than experiments on lab rats. Maybe you see yourself as a mistake or cosmic gook. I believe in God's eyes I'm valuable and precious. That I was made from intelligent design and when my body folds up like a sheet and returns to dust, my spirit is going to be with God. Hitler was trying to purge a society of misfits when he needed to purge the evil in his heart! The danger of believing that man came through evolution instead of intelligent design is that when we reduce man down to the level of being like apes, than when we have too many dogs and cats in society, we put them to sleep or gas them, kill them with an injection and that is what Hitler started doing.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. Psalm 139:14
Part of Hitler’s plan to exterminate the Jews was part of Satan’s plan like it is was during the time of Egypt when Pharaoh was nervous about Jacob's children (Israel) taking over their land since they were bearing children so fast that he ordered the boy babies to be murdered. I don't see much difference in the white man wiping out the Indians (portraying them as agents of evil) in this country, persecution of the Irish, or killing the Kurds. "Stalin murdered around 20 million people/the Bolsheviks. Saddam between 500,000 and 1 million, Chairman Mao of China estimate of 50 to 70 million people, and Hitler killed 10 million not including the war."
Then a new king, who did not know about Joseph, came to power in Egypt. Look," he said to his people, "the Israelites have become much too numerous for us. Come, we must deal shrewdly with them or they will become even more numerous and, if war breaks out, will join our enemies, fight against us and leave the country." So they put slave masters over them to oppress them with forced labor, and they built Pithom and Rameses as store cities for Pharaoh. But the more they were oppressed, the more they multiplied and spread…. "When you help the Hebrew women in childbirth and observe them on the delivery stool, if it is a boy, kill him; but if it is a girl, let her live." Exodus 1:16
Population control and birth control has kept down overcrowding, but it’s sad when government or a society starts controlling our life to tell us how many children we can raise. Some of our society has dealt with unwanted pregnancies through abortion. Being that I was unplanned by my parents, I look at it that if I was not born that would have affected my five children and current and future grandchildren for several generations. It is a chain reaction when we abort one life. Then consider anyone who I’ve shared eternal life with and had an influence leading them to the Lord. My parents could have aborted me and I would have gone to heaven, but then there would have been many people that my life affects in sharing the gospel.
It’s important for fathers to encourage their children to go to church early in life which establishes a pattern. My father was a non-believer until his death bed, but he attended church every Sunday. Attending church does not make you a Christian, but it gives your children a chance to hear God’s word and make a choice in their life. At least, all of our children had the chance to make a choice in life by hearing the gospel at church at least one time in their lives.
This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live. Duet 30:19.
And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD. Joshua 24:14

The paparazzi flashes, and that they think that it's you,
But they don't know that who you are is not what you do,
True, we get it twisted when we peak at the charts,
Yo before we part from the start,
Where's your heart?
You a pimp, hustler?
Tell me what's your title,
America has no more stars, now we call them idols,
You sit idle, While we teach prosperity,
The first thing to prosper should be inside of me.
We're free...
Not because of 22's on the range,
But Christ came in range, we said yes now we changed,
Not the same, even though I made a fall,
Since I got that call, no more Saul, now I'm Paul.
(YEP!)
I don't want to gain the whole world, and lose my soul,
Don't wanna walk away, let me hear the people say.
I don't want to gain the whole world, and lose my soul,
Don't wanna walk away, let me hear the people say.
Don't wanna walk away,
Don't wanna walk away
How do I sense the tide that's rising?
De-sensitizing me from living in light of eternity,
How do I sense the tide that's rising?
It's hypnotizing me from living in light of eternity,
How do I sense the tide that's rising?
De-sensitizing me from living in light of eternity.
(Lord what we gon do,We're relying on you,
all eyes are on you Lord,
all eyes are on you, all eyes are on you Jesus.)
I don't want to gain the whole world, and lose my soul,
Don't wanna walk away, let me hear the people say.
(Don't let me lose my soul, my soul.)
I don't want to gain the whole world, and lose my soul,
(This is my honesty, Father, won't you cover me.)
I don't want to gain the whole world, and lose my soul,
(Don't wanna walk away, and all those people say)
I don't want to gain the whole world, and lose my soul,
(Don't wanna lose, I don't wanna lose my soul.)
Lord forgive us when we get consumed by the things of this world,
That fight for our love, and our passion,
As our eyes are open wide and on you.
Grant us the privilege of your world view,
And may your kingdom be, what wakes us up, and lays us down.
(Hallelujah, Don't wanna lose our soul,
No, Don't wanna lose my soul.)
Hey excuse me,
I'm looking or the after party,
Toby,
Haha, yeah, last door on the left, you'll hear it.
Thanks,
No problem.
Don't let me lose my soul, I never wanna walk away,
I don't wanna lose my soul,
No, no, no.
Don't let me, don't let me, lose my soul,
I don't wanna walk away,
Don't let me walk away,
Na na na na no,
Don't let me lose, my soul,
I'm never gonna walk away.
