Saving Fleas in a Disposable Society. Will You Become Disposable Too or Are You Worth Saving? Part I

As a little girl, there were mail order catalogs where I could have my mother order an ant farm, sea horses or a flea circus.  I ordered the sea horses.  Who wants to raise a flea circus?  Who wants to save fleas?  I had enough fleas with animals.  We had a Himalayan cat when we first moved into our house and he was attacked by fleas.  It sucked the life out of him, he grew weak and died.  I think a deer must have rolled on the new sod that was laid in our yard, because I would walk outside with white socks on in the summer and see hundreds of fleas on my ankles from our new sod.  Those fleas went with me to work, in my car and to other people’s homes for awhile, and it was a whole flea epidemic.  I’m not interested in saving or raising fleas because fleas are parasites.  I’m also not interested in being a parasite in life myself.  I’m not interested in sucking the life out of people.  It’s not worked well for me to be around takers in life and it does not work well now.
  • Fleas get all of their sustenance from another life form- in this case, usually a furry life form. ( Fleas don't like horses or pigs. )They also rely on their unwilling host for transportation and contact with other hosts to further their long term reproductive designs.
We have many items in our society that are disposable, i.e. diapers, shaving razors, plates, plastic silverware, napkins and cups.  Microwave meals have disposal trays.  Flowers that are given for Valentine's Day won't last for very long unless they are a plant and you take care of one.  I still have a plant that my husband gave me for Valentine’s day five years ago.   God’s word is the only thing that will endure forever.

The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God stands forever." Isaiah 40:8
Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. Matthew 24:35
As for man, his days are like grass, he flourishes like a flower of the field; Psalm 103:15

God becomes disposable in our society as far as we are taking his name out of everything as much as possible.  Take God out of the court house in displaying the Ten Commandments, school prayer, no manger scenes at Christmas and public prayer.  Let’s take the name of Jesus out of prayer and take Christ out of Christmas and say “Happy Holidays.”  Notice when people swear they don't say "Oh Buddha or Oh Mohammad."  They usually say God's or Jesus Christ’s name in vain which is breaking one of the ten commandments.

You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name. Exodus 20:7

I was cleaning my house Saturday and I was thinking about how I can’t save or heal a flea in my life.  When I first became a Christian, I had a business card that I passed out when I went street witnessing and it said, “If you meet me and forget me you have lost nothing, but if you meet Jesus and forget him, than you have lost everything.”  The business card is true that you can forget about me in your life, but don’t forget about Jesus in your life.  While I was thinking how pathetic I am that I can’t help or save fleas or anyone else in life, God reminded me that I am a co-laborer with Him.

For we are God’s fellow workers. You are God’s field, God’s building. 1 Cor. 3:9

Jesus had over 70 disciples.  When it was rough in following Jesus, they left.  Jesus looked at the twelve disciples and he asked if they wanted to leave him also and what did Peter say? From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him. You do not want to leave too, do you?" Jesus asked the Twelve. Simon Peter answered him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life John 6:66-68

As Peter said, no matter what happens to me in life, I’ve not found anything or anyone else in life, but Jesus who has the words of eternal life that feed my soul and my spirit.  When he came into my heart, my desires changed.

When I reach out to someone or share the words that Jesus shared, I’m sharing the words of eternal life.  I’m not out promoting myself, I’m promoting Jesus.  If I was promoting myself, I would have continued smoking marijuana and doing my own will in life.  It’s not something I would particularly want to do now since my desires have changed, but it was something my flesh craved and enjoyed in the past.  I can think of other things I would rather do than help people in depression/despair or go to a single’s Bible study.  Who wants to be around some people who have bitterness, negativity or people with depression?  In otherwards, God motivates our desires to do good.  It’s not goodness on our own apart from Christ, but God who works in us his goodness.  The closer I get to the Lord, the more I realize it’s not me, but Christ in me the hope of glory!

To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. Colossians 1:27
For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him. Philip 2:13

I've gone to several water amusement parks and I don't consider other people's feet are very beautiful.  I don't like my feet, but God says they are beautiful when I bring the good news!

How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, "Your God reigns!" Isaiah 52:7
And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!" Romans 10:15

It’s easier to praise and serve the Lord on the mountain top and I hear many Christians talk about how wonderful the apostle Paul was, but only one person stood by Paul as a Christian friend/co-worker to strengthen/comfort him and that was Luke.  If Paul was so wonderful why did not more Christian people stand by him and give him supportl?  If Jesus was so wonderful why did his disciples leave him in the garden and Peter denied him three times?  It’s because most people are out to save their own hide.   When Jesus got inside his disciples’ hearts, than they laid down their lives for Jesus. We are all out for ourselves and to save our own hides by self-preservation. When God gets a hold of our hearts, we live life from a new perspective and do things that we normally would not do.

At my first defense, no one came to my support, but everyone deserted me. May it not be held against them. But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. And I was delivered from the lion's mouth. 2 Timothy 4:15
For everyone looks out for his own interests, not those of Jesus Christ. Philip 2:21

Read through the book of Kings and most of the Old Testament and you will find a common theme.  It’s self-deception.

All a man's ways seem right to him, but the LORD weighs the heart. Proverbs 21:2
In those days Israel had no king; everyone did as he saw fit. Judges 21:25 & Judges 17:6

Pastors dispose of certain scriptures if it does not fit in with their theology.  Let’s pick and choose what scriptures we want to believe and adhere to. They don’t teach that miracles are for today and they don’t believe in the scriptures to lay hands on the sick.   Where in the Bible does it says that miracles cease to happen one day?  There are others that mentally accent that God’s word is true, but it is not real in their life.  Faith is the substance of things hoped for.

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 2 Timothy 3:16

You say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God. Good for you! Even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror. You foolish man, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless?  James 2:19-20 Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. Hebrews 11:1

At my brother’s high school reunion one of his friends came up to me and asked me if I remember how I was always trying to save him when I was a teenager/young Christian.   He remembered me from telling him about Jesus.  He was laughing and said, “He was not worth saving.”  I’m glad that he remembers me as a fanatical young born-again Christian.  I guess he thought it was a fad in my life.   Wow this God/Jesus fad has lasted over 38 years!  And God does determine that he is worth saving!  He definitely has more value than the flea circus in God’s book!

Letting God direct our steps in what He has us to do.  Our desires become God’s desires the closer we get to God.  His thoughts are higher than our thoughts and his ways higher than our ways, but the more time we spend in God’s word and in his presence the more God’s thoughts and God’s way become our thoughts and our ways.  The more time I spend with Jesus, the more I know what outreaches He wants me to do in life.

Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it. Matthew 16:24-25

He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well." Mark 16:1-18

All Because Of This by Mercy Me

Why do we do the things we do
How can we sing when there seems no reason to
How do we smile when there's not much to smile about
When the world is down who are we to stand and shout
They wonder why we do the things we do

It's all because of this
It's all because of this
We've tasted love, tasted hope, tasted holiness

And they wonder why, we do the things we do
