And such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he corrupt by flatteries: but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits. Daniel 11:32
God can use anyone He wants and He chose to use a teenage shepherd boy. God chose to have Jesus born of common folk in a stable. I remember when I was a young Christian someone saying to me, "Can God make a rock so big that He cannot move it Himself." I remember telling him, "Yes and that rock was your heart and He can't move it can He?" Actually, God can cause rocks to praise him and talk:
Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples!” I tell you,” he replied, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.” Luke 19:39-40
The average height for a man in America is 5’10” and the average height for a woman is 5’4.” I’ve found some very tall men that have a rebellious attitude that remind me of Saul in the Bible. The Children of Israel liked Saul as their king because he was tall. God is dealing with me about my hang-up in liking tall men.
People remind me of race horses as far as my sister-in-law worked in a stable and she told me that a race horse can bite, kick and will stick their rear end in your face. I find God deals with the thoughts and the attitudes of the heart and when I hold on to bad attitudes, it does not fare well for me. I don't like it when my grandson has a bad attitude and know God does not like it when I have a bad attitude. Some things that happen to us in life can create a bad attitude and it's taken me quite a while to give some of my bad attitudes to God.
For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Hebrews 4:12
Short men have complained to me that when they go out to socials that women are interested in their married friends who are tall and not them. Speaking from my past in being with a person my same height, I know men have insecurities about their height where it bothered them if I wore heels. It could be that because of bad experiences in our past like me, women develop an opinion about shorter men. I’ve also heard some women say they just want a strong guy that can “carry them over the threshold.”
I like the quote by Vivian in the movie, Pretty Woman, where she tells Edward that she wants a knight in shiny armor to rescue her so he climbs the outside stairwell to her apartment and they are kissing and he has a fear of heights. Then she tells him that “she will rescue him back.” Marriage to me is a two-way street of working on each other’s issues together. I was at a single’s Bible study and they asked an ice breaker question of what single person do I see myself on television. I told them I saw myself as Dr. Wilson who is the friend of Dr. House. He is rather the conscience of House to keep him in line since House is very cocky. I find men can be cocky and I see myself as a balance of a man’s conscience.
All through the Bible we see situations where men most likely will not listen to a woman. Sarah wanted Ismael and Hagar out of the house so of course Abraham was not kicking his own flesh and blood out until God told him to listen to Sarah. Pilate’s wife warned Pilate about Jesus, because of a bad dream she had about Jesus. Mary telling Joseph that she was pregnant by immaculate conception I’m sure went over like a lead balloon since it says “Joseph wanted to put her away privately.” I do find one example of a woman who influenced David and that was when Abigail interceded for her household against her husband’s wishes to save their lives. So I’m “trying” to influence men to do right, and not be like Bonnie and Clyde, Jezebel, Sapphira or Herodias in influencing a person for evil.
Some short men may have the “Napoleon” syndrome or rather the small runt of the litter where they have to prove themselves about fighting back because they are short and maybe were bullied or picked on in school. My 6'1" husband liked to tease his short sister by putting his elbows on her shoulders and leaning down to taunt her about her height when they were growing up. Jacob connived to take away his brother’s firstborn blessings. Joseph's brothers were jealous of him. David's brothers accused him of coming to battle because he was nosey on what they were doing. Sibling rivalry was with Cain and Abel that lead Cain to kill his brother when God told Cain that if he would just do right his offerings would be accepted.
In the course of time Cain brought an offering to the LORD from the fruit of the soil, while Abel, for his part, brought one of the best firstlings of his flock. The Lord looked with favor on Abel and his offering, but on Cain and his offering he did not. Cain greatly resented this and was crestfallen. So the Lord said to Cain: "Why are you so resentful and crestfallen? If you do well, you can hold up your head; but if not, sin is a demon lurking at the door: his urge is toward you, yet you can be his master." Genesis 4:3-7
My very first blog 1-l/2 years ago was after after I attended a secular single’s dance from a meetup.com group. I met a widower who lost his wife who was fairly attractive to me, had a nice personality, a good job, was tall, and he sang a great Karoake song for the competition. There were a lot of good things I liked about him. Unfortunately, he killed it with his mouth. This widower told me that he could not get past the first date with women, because they found him boring. Within minutes, if not seconds, all of sudden I found him extremely boring and could barely talk to him. The next morning when I was on my lunch break I was driving in my car, and I was thinking about the incident and I asked the Lord what was up with my experience since I thought the guy had many things going for him?
The Lord spoke in my spirit and He said, “You are a farmer with your words.” You go around and plant seeds in other people’s minds about yourself and then those seeds grow in their mind. We are planting words into people’s minds about ourselves. I’m a very outgoing person and the main crop I try to plant is God’s word. I like to fill myself like a gas tank full of God’s word so when I am around a person guess what pours out of my heart? God’s word! It’s says out of the “overflow” of a person’s heart their mouth will speak.
The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks. Luke 6:45
There are many guys that kill my excitement in getting to know them with their mouth. In those initial getting to know you stages what a person says is the foundation or how they frame their house. It’s what they believe about themselves. I like what David believed about himself. I don’t hear David talk about all his illnesses and how old he is. Some older people remind me of an organ recital. Ask them how they are doing and you will hear a recital of all the things wrong with their inner organs.
“For by you I can run against a troop, and by my God I can leap over a wall.” 2 Samuel 22:30 -- This verse might be the Hebrew Bible’s version of “I can do all things through Christ,” since David expresses the idea that for the one who is rescued and vindicated by God and walking in the light which God provides (verse 29), he can do remarkable things indeed!
One man stood up – David against a whole Philistine army. No one else could defeat Goliath. God is saying that one person can make a difference with his word in their heart and in their mouth. What did David say? He was already acting like God gave the Philistine into his hands before it happened:
1 Samuel 17:45-47: David said to the Philistine, "You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will hand you over to me, and I'll strike you down and cut off your head. Today I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord's, and he will give all of you into our hands."
God’s word was in David’s heart and mouth.
When I wake up every morning I say, “Thank you Lord, I’m loved and blessed by God. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” I can’t let up on not saying this. It's not that I’m trying to be religious and make a positive confession, but it’s releases the power of God in my life to say God’s word. The enemy likes to comes against me to try to knock me down in life. “Greater is he that is within me than he that is within the world.” Jesus defeated Satan by telling him to get behind him, but also saying the word of God. So it’s a matter if a man can come to really see himself the way God sees him as a mighty warrior in God. That is what the angel told Gideon when Gideon saw himself as short and insignificant.
For as he thinks in his heart, so is he: Proverbs 23:7
When the angel of the LORD appeared to Gideon, he said, “The Lord is with you, mighty warrior.” — Judges 6:12
(Sheep go baa goats go butt) But Lord,” Gideon asked, “how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family.” V. 13
If you want to see more power in your walk with God, what comes out of your mouth is a big deal. What comes out when you are angry, under stress, when someone pushes your buttons, when you have a car fender bender or there are traffic jams. This is where the “tests of Christianity” happen.
The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit. Proverbs 18:21
But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken. Matthew 12:36
One thing I have found in life is when I have what I call Jonah days all my angels (friends and family) are usually busy with their lives. Sometimes I’ve called them and they are too busy to come out and play. It sort of reminds me of when I was a child and no one could come out to play. At those times when there is no one available and I’m having a hard time, I have to encourage myself in God. I know that Jesus is in the boat of life with me. I can awaken Jesus by rebuking the storm in the name of Jesus from coming against me, but also knowing that I’m going to go to the other side no matter how big the waves and winds are in my life. One of the confidences I have is when my root system goes down deep into the word of God those roots are not going to fail. You become more like a palm tree and a palm tree can bend pretty far down in a hurricane but the roots are going to keep it in the ground. It says that God “watches” over the way of the righteous. I’ve been made righteous through the blood of Jesus.
Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers. Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous. For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked leads to destruction. Psalm 1:1-6
There are many different things we can take delight in or enjoy, but the most important thing in our life should be delighting in God’s word. Jesus was the word made flesh so when we are delighting in the word of God, hearing the word of God and getting more of the word of God in our heart than we are delighting ourselves in the Lord.
Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:4
Want to produce the fruit of the spirit in your life as a Christian? Exalt God’s word above everything in your life and she will exalt you (“Prize her, and she will exalt you; Proverbs 4:7-9, Psalm 1:1-6). Jesus said “if” we continue in his word than we will be his disciples (John 8:31) and to study to show yourself approved (2 Tim 2:15). Next, start acting on (applying) scriptures to get it from your head to your heart (James 2:17). Cut out other distractions for several months and test if your life situation and joy improves. Even Paul talked about married couples giving up sex for a short time to seek God.
One person can make a difference. Martin Luther King, Jr. made a difference in a generation and a movement of change. I love a quote he made. "If you can't fly then run, if you can't run then walk, if you can't walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward." Anyway Martin Luther King, Jr. spiraled change. Some change that was not fully made during his life. He reminds me a lot of Samson. Samson killed more Philistines in his death than in his life. In the same way Martin Luther King, Jr. has killed more Philistines of discrimination in his death than in his life.
I want to be a David. I want to make a difference in a person’s life for good….like one chad or vote can make a difference in having a president of the United Stated in Florida…we can make a difference! We don’t even know that one person we minister to in life if he/she will go out and be a David and he/she will kill a Goliath. Let us be ministers of reconciliation, healing, faith, positive encouragement. God is greater than our defeats/failures and there is victory in Jesus! Don’t let the failures of the faith message people discourage your walk with God. We have to have God’s word in our hearts first before we will be able to believe (act on it) and speak it. All through the Bible we see how one person made a difference, Ester saved the whole Jewish nation, Rahab the prostitute was the only person who escaped Jericho who hid the spies and she was the mother of Boaz, Ruth followed Naomi and married Boaz who were the ancestors of David, Elijah was sent to one widow woman and Elisha healed one leper Naaman.
Make a difference to your generation like David. Ask God what your calling is to your generation.
For when David had served God's purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep; he was buried with his fathers and his body decayed. Acts 13:36
Joshua and Caleb made a difference in their generation and they said that they would serve the Lord along with their household.
But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord." Joshua 24:15
