No Win Situations

There are some relationships, neighbors, some jobs, some events that happen in life where they are no win situations. That is what happened to Joseph. Potiphar's wife came on to him and Potiphar to save face threw Joseph in jail although Joseph was innocent. In these situations, it’s just best to trust in the creator of the universe when we serve him that He will turn it around. In the natural, it looked like Joseph was in the wrong place at the wrong time!

The Pharisees were constantly picking Jesus apart. They judged him for picking corn on the Sabbath and healing on the Sabbath. He pointed out that they would do good on the Sabbath, by getting their animal out of the pit if their animal fell in. Since Jesus (who was perfect) got picked apart by others, I don't see how we will escape the same. I find that many people, are not successful in relationships, because they have a spirit of perfectionism. If you had a father like I had who pointed out the one B on a report card when you had all A's, this can contribute to the need to be perfect and then you feel like you never measure up. I've been in relationships like that in the past where I never felt like I was good enough for a person. I joked with another professor at work because he had an uncle who raised him like this after his father died when he was 15 years old. It was as if nothing we did was good enough. I can't help but believe that people (including our dads) take their insecurities out on their children. The reason why I say this is I remember my mother telling me that her father did not like my dad and did not feel he was good enough for her (his little girl) when they got married.

We see another example of this no-win situation with David. David killed a 9-foot giant and Saul was supposed to give David his daughter to him, but then Saul reneged on the "prize fight" of the century. He required David to go out and kill more Philistines. It's because after Saul failed to kill the giant himself, people went around said, "Saul killed his thousands and David killed his ten thousands." 1 Samuel 18:7. Saul took out his jealousy and insecurities on David. It was misplaced anger. It was actually God through David who defeated Goliath. Even if David became a "Swat team/sharp shooter" with practicing his sling shot all his life, God still put David in the right place at the right time.
Now the Israelites had been saying, “Do you see how this man keeps coming out? He comes out to defy Israel. The king will give great wealth to the man who kills him. He will also give him his daughter in marriage and will exempt his family from taxes in Israel.”  1 Samuel 17:25
And Saul said, Thus shall ye say to David, The king desireth not any dowry, but an hundred foreskins of the Philistines, to be avenged of the king's enemies.--1 Samuel 18:25
Many times a sibling or spouse can take out their frustrations from their work or others on their loved ones. It's not right, but it happens.

I believe our society has this "more, more, more" philosophy where it seems that no matter what you do for others sometimes it's never enough. Sales ingrains that into us so we keep buying. We have to have a better and faster cell phone, a better and faster car, it's a society of advertising to breed discontent and a lack of satisfaction with a simple life.

But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. 1 Timothy 6:8

Next, we feed on drama. Jerry Springer, reality television, action movies, like this one guy brought up that no one would want to report on his marriage for twenty years, because it’s just a "regular marriage."

Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands, just as we told you, 1 Thess. 4:11

It’s amazing how Jesus was born to a simple/poor family like Mary and Joseph. The Jews were expecting not a baby born in a manger. Can anything good come out of Nazareth? Not a whole lot of drama being the son of a carpenter man.
