Love Will Find a Way, But Roses Have Thorns

Jesus is called the “Rose of Sharon” (I am a rose of Sharon, a lily of the valleys. Song of Solomon 2:1).

I don’t see that as most American movies where life always has a happy ending. I guess the British like to change the endings of their movies. Life may not turn out the way of our expectations. Joseph hit the ground running with Mary being pregnant, fleeing into Egypt, and then we read later when Jesus went into ministry that apparently Jesus step-father was no longer alive and Mary was widowed, than Mary had to deal with the death of her own son. Mary was there on the day of Pentecost with Jesus step-brothers to receive the power of the Holy Spirit. (Acts 1:14).

The other Joseph in the Bible did not have a white picket fence life either in that his brothers threw him in a pit and later he ended up in prison. David had to run from Saul for several years in the wilderness. Same way with Moses who lived in the wilderness for 40 years. Paul was constantly threatened his Christian life. Daniel was thrown in a lion’s den and fiery furnace. All of the apostles eventually were martyred.

This is what we call “sustaining faith.”

Sustain me, and I will be rescued; then I will meditate continually on your decrees. Psalm 119:117
You give me your shield of victory, and your right hand sustains me; you stoop down to make me great. Psalm 18:35
The Lord watches over the alien and sustains the fatherless and the widow, but he frustrates the ways of the wicked. Psalm 146:9
My hand will sustain him; surely my arm will strengthen him. Psalm 89:21
The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. Hebrews 1:3

Sometimes in life we may go through a period of sifting, Peter did. Sifting is typically getting the impurities out of us in life or it is sifting ingredients together to make a cake. Jesus warned Peter that Satan wanted to sift him. He said that he prayed for him that his faith would not fail, and that he was to strengthen his brothers when he was converted. Many times in life we can go through a shaking or sifting and it can be through divorce and death. I’ve been through both.

"Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers." Luke 22:31-32
The words "once more" indicate the removing of what can be shaken--that is, created things--so that what cannot be shaken may remain. Hebrews 12:27
For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. James 1:3
Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. James 4:8

On the Crazy Love series, he talked about how God is a creator of all things new. He makes a new beginning in life. God is a creator and he makes everything new. It's a good attitude to start your life out every day that this is a new day in my life, a new beginning, and a new future. God mercies are new every morning! (Lam. 3:23)

It relates to this scripture I found:

He who was seated on the throne said, "I am making everything new!" Then he said, "Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true." Rev. 21:5

When I first became a Christian, he took me and he made me a new creation in Christ Jesus in my spirit person. I had the same soul and body, but my inner person now had God’s spirit inside of me. Now I just have to get my mind renewed and my body to line up with what is going on the inside of me!

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! 2 Cor. 5:17
We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body. For we who are alive are always being given over to death for Jesus' sake, so that his life may be revealed in our mortal body. 2 Cor. 4:10-11
Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2
