I have met several women who are in these relationships where it’s like a guy locks his loved one away in some ivory tower away from her family and friends. She gets in a relationship and then you barely ever see the person again. This is not a healthy relationship. When you are in love with someone, you like to show them off. An example of this is in the Song of Solomon. I liked to show off my spouse at my high school reunions.
I am my lover's and my lover is mine; he browses among the lilies. Song of Solomon 6:3
And,
“He has taken me to the banquet hall, and his banner over me is love Song of Solomon 2:4:
"Taken more poetically, the maiden rejoices and publicly and openly proclaimed his love for her, as if he had set up a banner or flag to say it. “She is proclaiming that the love which the king has for her is evident to everyone. He does not say one thing to her in private and contradict that in public . . . He is not ashamed of his love for her, so he is glad for all to see it.” (Glickman) and “He is not ashamed to acknowledge her publicly . . . There is a certain about of freedom you give up in dating, and it’s a free will choice. I don’t like a person who tries to control my every move. It’s sort of like chess. I am a social butterfly. In the past, I would find a social butterfly that landed on my arm, and make a box for it and give it water, but the butterfly died because I was trying to keep it in a box. Some men want to lock a woman in an ivory tower for himself like Rapunzel or the dragon that locked the princess away.
Same way with my love for Jesus, I did not lock Jesus away in my heart, but I proclaimed my love for the Lord from the time I became a Christian to my friends and family, because we are not to be ashamed of God either.
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile. Romans 1:16
to proclaim your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night, Psalm 92:2
If anyone is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels. Luke 9:26
I find that men or women get insecure in letting the reins go over a person if they have mistrust issues from being cheated on in a relationship in the past, but you are going to have to deal with these issues. What you will find that the tighter grip you hold on a person, the more that they will slip through your hands.
I always like the quote by Princess Leia on Star Wars to the general: “The more you tighten your grip, Tarkin, the more star systems will slip through your fingers.” So realize Satan, the more you tighten your grip, the more people will slip through your hands. That is what happened to me. When I started realizing that Satan was real, and I was serving him, and he was tightening his grip on me, the more I wanted to go to the right side of the force, and I did.
