I have a very "raw" sense of humor. My son writes comedy - the apple does not fall far from the tree. I went to my son’s open house for Mr. Everson at Pike Junior High and my son got in trouble for joking around in Mr. Everson’s class. I sat out in the hall in junior high for joking around with Tim Wiley in Mr. Everson’s class. Sometimes that raw sense of humor did not go well with my engineering husband. This was my favorite television show growing up and yes I like the "Little Rascals," and the "Three Stooges." I like slap-stick comedy. (A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. Proverbs 17:22)
I always liked those Ma and Pa Kettle shows, reminds me of a farmer:
Pastor Gary at Indian Creek talked today about being bold to share God's message. Peter prayed that they would speak the word boldy after being beat, in prison and threatened. (Acts 4:29-31). This was the very first blog I wrote in September 2010. I met a man who lost his wife, and I was just praying about a reaction I had to meeting him during my lunch the following Monday. Then the Lord spoke to me and he said, "You are Farmers with your words."
I wanted to share something that happened to me in hopes to help many of you in your single/dating adventures.
I went to a singles dance and I met someone who lost his wife to cancer five years ago. I’ve learned not to get too excited about meeting anyone new until I get to know someone very well, but whenever I meet someone who has a similar life experience it is a real blessing to me. Anyway, I was really enjoying talking to him. We had this great connection and it was an interesting conversation. He was also attractive to me. Then when we were talking about dating he made some comment about not getting past the first date since women find him boring. Than all of sudden I felt he was extremely boring. I mean, I thought “Wow they are right this guy is a bore.” It was pretty much through the night I could not stand to be around him. It took me quite a long time during the evening to even see him in a positive light again and offer him my phone number to consider spending time with him in the future.
But anyway, I was thinking about it today and God showed me that we are farmers. We are sowing seeds in people’s minds through our words. Proverbs 18:21 states, “The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” Just as we sow God’s word to get people saved, we are sowing words of encouragement or discouragement about our brothers and sisters, but also about ourselves. Anyway, we have to watch our words and paint a positive picture of ourselves.
Maybe we need to work on our self image and God can help us with that. Maybe we doubt God’s love for us (Roman 8:28-32 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things?)
With divorce, or an untimely death, or because we have remained single for so long maybe it is easy to doubt God’s goodness and God’s love.
Although my earthly father was not a Christian, he would go the extra mile for me and my husband told me he would sleep in a homeless shelter, before he would ever let his son sleep in one. If we are parents (including those who are not believers) and wanting to do all this for our own children, how much more does our heavenly Father want to give good things to those who ask him.
If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! Matthew 17:11
When I was dating, I purposely created a positive atmosphere with my future spouse. I’m not saying in 15 years of marriage there were not times I would meet him from work and not be negative about the step-children or whatever, but 9 times out of 10, he was happy to come home. He definitely was not coming home to a angry/bitter woman than a sweet loving wife. There is a scripture that says Proverbs 14:1 which says, “Every wise woman builds her house: but the foolish pluck it down with her hands.” I believe we can substitute man in that scripture to be careful what you plant about yourself and others in people’s minds. Words tear people down.
That saying as a child, “Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never hurt me” is far from the truth.
Do not say that people do not want to date you, etc. Say positive things and see yourself the way you want to be, and others to see you. Believe that you are blessed of God and he is going to do great things in your life! Believe like Joseph in the Bible you have God’s favor. I talked to someone recently who said she attracts the wrong men. She is pretty, intelligent, fun, athletic and loves the Lord. I told her when we pray, we are to believe we receive. To thank the Lord for bringing a great guy into her life.
(Therefore I say to you, What things soever you desire, when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you shall have them. Mark 11:24, Matthew 21:22)
We believe we receive when we pray, and we thank God he heard us, we don't wait to thank God when we have the manifestion. The example of this is when Jesus thanked God ahead of time before he raised Lazarus from the dead.
Jesus did not use any of his divine privileges but was born into a humble family in a stable. He was the second Adam and did what Adam failed to do right. (Philip 2:7 and 1 Cor. 15:45). Jesus knew the secret of words. He used his words to heal the sick, raise the dead (Lazarus come forth!), told Peter to go catch a fish and coin would be there in its mouth, also told them to cast their net on a different side of boat to catch fish and their nets were totally full, his words calmed the wind and the waves, and he cursed the fig tree.
So they took away the stone. Then Jesus looked up and said, "Father, I thank you that you have heard me. I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here, that they may believe that you sent me."John 11:41-42
It is my master's voice I seek to hear each day and please, and the Lord told me he wanted me to strip off the pride garments like David threw off the kingly robes and blog about various topics of the Bible. Jesus said, "My sheep hear my voice." (My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. John 10:27)
Words are seeds they grow, and then it’s hard to get them out of other people’s mind.
