Weather Report—God’s Weather Vane
I don't pay attention much to the weather unless I am going to an open outdoor concert or I am going boating on a weekend. Or I cannot water my grass or a tragedy of weather in the world.
Good sermon at Indian Creek Sunday about open doors. Not every open door in your life should be gone through and the minister who was speaking in place of Gary gave the example of Paul and Silas in jail. When the prison doors were open by an earthquake, none of the prisoners escaped or left, and neither did Paul and Silas. It’s because God wanted them to “stay put” and Paul ended up leading the prison guard and his family to Christ. All of the prisoners were also touched in that experience (Acts 16:25-33)

I just got tested on the sermon this week when it comes to renting out my house. I had a woman blow me off and not meet me about renting out my place on Saturday, and then I had the thought the night before that I could rent it out to a man. Then the next morning I had an email from a post-doc who is married and has family in California that he wanted to rent a room. Just because I have the opportunity that presents itself does not mean that it is God. Anyway, the woman who did not show up Saturday emailed after that she is still interested in renting.
I first had it in my mind’s eye to rent a room to a female. I know the widow in Elijah’s day rented a room to Elijah but she has a son and I’m alone. The Bible says, “Whatsoever you ask (or demand) in Jesus name I will do it. (John 16:26)
What I am always trying to determine if God is holding back my blessings for some reason that it’s not the right timing, or it’s the devil holding them back. It is in relation to the prayer that Jesus talked about where the widow kept coming to the unjust just about her oppressors. People can be your oppressors, circumstances, grief, an ex-spouse, sickness, a boss on a job can be an oppressor.
Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. Luke 18:1
He was comparing it to false leadings. The Bible warns about false prophets, false teaching, false brethren in sheep's clothing that are wolves inside. Some of us have experienced some of this. I look at God’s spirit as a weather vane in my life to lead and guide me into all truth.
This matter arose because some false brothers had infiltrated our ranks to spy on the freedom we have in Christ Jesus and to make us slaves. Galatians 2:4
For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, masquerading as apostles of Christ. 2 Cor. 11:3 and 2 Peter 2:1
I've been on some jobs I wish I researched more before I took them. Some college classes I wish I would have checked out the professor with other students before I signed up and some men I've dated even married, I did not do my homework very well in checking them out. I also limited my possibilities in the past to certain venues. I was going to this one single's group and I was grieved at men talking about their ex-wives, came home and prayed and I heard this voice say, "If you don't want a bitter fish than quit fishing in those bitter ponds." (James 3:11)
I remember at the age of 16 years old I had a mixture of Eastern Religion and the occult, but I asked God "God if you are real show me who you are." I was drawn to a read a Bible. I had tried the Baptist church route of going forward at a church altar when I was 12 years old, but nothing happened in my heart at that time to change me. I kept reading in John about Jesus and eventually met someone who told me to pray and ask Jesus into my life. God did answer my prayer as far as showing me that He is real.
Being sensitive to the Spirit's guidance and leading in life, I believe like the minister said rather than pray for open doors is to pray and fast and seek God's leading and his will in our life. I was watching a recent biography on television that scientists believe there is a God gene in every one of us that causes us to be drawn to God. This gene agrees with the scripture, “Every man has been given a measure of faith.” It is what are we going to do with that faith?
When we pray our frontal lobe is more receptive to leadings from God, healing from God. When people go forward to be prayed for, they have prepared their hearts for healing by seeking God. It’s a constant “openness” to receive guidance or the voice of God in our lives. It was the openness that lead me to Jesus.
Show me your ways, O Lord, teach me your paths; Psalm 25:4
Teach me your way, O Lord; lead me in a straight path because of my oppressors. Psalm 27:11
Teach me your way, O Lord, and I will walk in your truth; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name. Psalm 86:11
When a person has this openness to God than the person who has a gift of healing like it talks about in the Bible is a conductor like electricity that channels the power of God through their touch and that is why it says in the Bible to “lay hands on the sick.” (Mark 16:18, James 5:14). I lay hands on myself and pray for myself at times. When I had a rapid heartbeat, I laid hands on myself and prayed it would stop. Same way with knee pain, I’ve laid hands on myself on several occasions and gotten the victory over knee pain. I am “acting on the word of God” when it says to lay hands on the sick.
The same Spirit gives great faith to another, and to someone else the one Spirit gives the gift of healing. 1 Cor. 12:9
And in the church God has appointed first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then workers of miracles, also those having gifts of healing, those able to help others, those with gifts of administration, and those speaking in different kinds of tongues. 1 Cor. 12:28
I look in the Bible and I see where the woman who used all her money on physicians said out of her mouth, “If I just touch Jesus I will be made whole.” Then I look at Jesus home town folk that only Jesus could do a few miracles, because they did not prepare their hearts. They closed their hearts. Many people who go forward to faith healers are expecting a touch of God, so they do get a miracle because they have an expectation of healing from God. If you have people pray for you and you expect nothing how can you receive when you don’t expect anything? When Jesus said, “Be it according to your faith.” Matthew 9:29
John the Baptist was a “preparation” for the coming of Jesus Christ and there are many that believe there is now a preparation going on for the second coming of Jesus Christ.
a voice of one calling in the desert, 'Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.'" Mark 1:3
I have found that God does open doors that no man can close, but I am like a weather vane as far as if the doors of favor closed at one house, then I am looking for the doors of favor at another home.
As you enter the home, give it your greeting. If the home is deserving, let your peace rest on it; if it is not, let your peace return to you. If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, shake the dust off your feet when you leave that home or town. Matthew 10:12-14
