American the Land Of Opportunity or the Land of Entitlement---Is Big Government our Sugar Daddy?

I used to love eating those Sugar Daddy’s candy bars when I was a little girl. They have a website called: sugardaddies.com.

Many people see big government as their Sugar Daddy.

I could easily substitute the generation of the Children of Israel in the wilderness for the generation of entitlement, because it becomes a generation who is unthankful.

One thing I have learned in helping people, especially since I worked a job for at least ten years in the health care field, in waiting on Medicaid patients, they could be the most whiny “entitlement” people on the face of the planet.

It’s like the more you do for a person, it’s not enough, and I believe that is the whole problem is that you are “doing” everything for them and you strip away a person’s value system or a sense of self-accomplishment. We need to get back to J.F.K.’s speech on what we can do for our country.

My understanding is the purpose of welfare is to help people to eventually get on their feet in the future, either by going to college or get them a job where they use even a disability of blindness (rehabilitation type job). Not to continue to fork out the welfare benefits so they can sponge off of others. If it’s a problem that can be fixed – than get the problem fixed---don’t continue to be a sponge. If the problem can’t be fixed, well that is the purpose of getting help.

As Christians we are “co-laborers” together – it’s not all God and it’s not all me – it’s a “team” effort between Jesus and us, and it is what Paul taught. I plant seeds, sometimes I water the seed, and God brings the harvest or the increase. (1 Cor. 3:6-7)

For we are labourers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building. 1 Cor. 3:9

I would not make a good nurse, because when people have a demanding attitude, want everything right now, and act like you owe them something when they are sick, I realize how wonderful it was when I broke my ankle that there was no one to wait on me, and I had to crawl around the house by myself with a broken ankle. So God is my sounding board when I am sick.

I see why God tells us to “thank” him for our prayer requests. I don’t like a whiny/demanding attitude. There is nothing worse in my book then being around sick and complaining people, and I was blessed to be married to a person who rarely complained.

Thank you God that you hear me when I pray.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Ephesians 4:6
I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone—1 Tim 2:1
So they took away the stone. Then Jesus looked up and said, "Father, I thank you that you have heard me. John 11:41

A good example of what happens when God enables our problems is the whole book of Hosea. Hosea married a prostitute Gomer and he continued to love her despite her roaming at night to have other lovers. It’s a good example to us that if God enables our problems that our lovers will kill us. Judas is another one who could at any time told Jesus he had “sticky” fingers since Jesus allowed him to have the money bag. Rather than turn over his problem to Jesus he continued to pilfer the money bag for three years and eventually sold Jesus out for money.

He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it. John 12:6

I see my heavenly Father being my Sugar Daddy, but it’s not in a sexual context, but in a provisional way. The Bible refers to God as the “Jehovah jireh –my provider.” Jehovah - Jireh: The Lord Who Provides. Genesis 22:12-14. The OT also talks about Jehovah - Rapha: The Lord Who Heals-Exodus 15:22-26

When I was divorced with the lack of child support and had four little children at home, I took advantage of loans and grants to go to college, but I stayed off food stamps and welfare by renting out my garage. I had the idea to rent out my garage and found a man who wanted to store his antique cars. I found alternative ways to make money without looking for government help. It's the same way now as far as I lost 3/4 of my income when I lost my husband and that is why I am renting out my house to two renters who live with me. Rather than jump into a carnal relationship which I've had several opportunities to replace my husband if I wanted to especially with online dating, I could have jumped in the flesh a long time ago, I am waiting on God for the best fish.

God is my Jehovah jireh
