Getting A Fast Prayer Request Answered (The Mercy Seat)

I never liked it when my earthly father would not let me use the car. I was in the "dog house." At times, I would walk to my friend’s house about a mile down the road even in the snow in Indiana.   It’s the same way with my heavenly Father. I don’t like it if God says "no," and it says that all the promises with God are yes and Amen (2 Cor. 1:20).

I have found that there are fast ways to get a prayer request from God. One is asking God for mercy. When I was a young Christian, my father developed a kink in his colon. I saw my dad on his back in pain on the floor in the living room. I prayed, “God have mercy on my father.”

In the hospital before surgery, the ex-ray technician dropped my father on the table and the kink in his colon went away so my father did not need surgery. My father believed that drop on the table caused it to go away and maybe God healed him that way, I am just glad that my prayer for mercy was answered, and my father did not need surgery.

I look through the Bible and people asking for mercy seemed to be a “quick” way for a prayer request to get answered sort of reminds me that there is not an atheist in a fox hole.

Now, whenever I drive by an awful car accident, I pray for mercy for those involved in the car accident. I ask for mercy quite often for myself, my loved ones, my country, the world, and others. Like the high priest came before the mercy seat for others in the Old Testament, I am coming on the behalf of others before God’s mercy seat because of Jesus. (Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. Hebrews 4:16)

We have the example of Ester who went before the king for favor to intercede for the whole Jewish race.

As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed him, calling out, "Have mercy on us, Son of David!" Matthew 9:27A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying out, "Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is suffering terribly from demon-possession." Matthew 15:22

Lord, have mercy on my son," he said. "He has seizures and is suffering greatly. He often falls into the fire or into the water. Matthew 17:15

Turn to me and have mercy on me; grant your strength to your servant and save the son of your maidservant. Psalm 86:16

If you had known what these words mean, 'I desire mercy, not sacrifice,'you would not have condemned the innocent. Matthew 12:7

"Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices--mint, dill and cummin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law--justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former. Matthew 23:23
