Did Jesus follow protocol? The Pharisees
did not like it that he healed on the Sabbath and picked corn. There is a whole
list of "woes" that he told them in Matthew 23. (Woe to you, teachers
of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and
dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence. Blind Pharisee!
First clean the inside of the cup and dish, and then the outside also will be
clean. Matthew 23:25-26)
I
heard this illustration when it comes to prayer, "Ask and it shall be
given you, seek and you shall find, knock and the door shall be opened unto
you." That many people go away and don't keep knocking on the door. It's
like a timid little child who gives up that a person can hear them rather than
banging hard on the door. Luke 11:9
I had this single guy tell me that he does not play any games, "What you see is what you get." I like his attitude it reminds me of Job when he said, "Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked I will depart. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised."
It's being open and honest.
So what happens if I don't like what I see? That is okay because maybe someone else will like what they see. I like this movie quote when this guy says to a woman who is trying to get over a relationship breakup "I don't eat off another's man taco platter." I was dining for Thanksgiving at work, and someone left their taco chips and they were untouched and I asked her if I can have them. I will eat on another woman's taco platter!
Too many times I find that people settle. There are times to settle down and then there is settling. There is a difference, because the perfect mate is not out there. But, I want to show you something else. Like Paul said, a more excellent way......
When I was looking for a job, I broke the rules. I sent out 25 resumes and I put my salary requirements on the cover letter because I wasted time with interviewing for jobs for a pay I did not want. With my computer skills, I usually got my foot in the door. I also made sure they covered pre-existing health conditions in my interview because my husband had asthma. I got an offer for $5K more than I wanted at a job.
Next, I went looking for my first house with three bedrooms, in Ben Davis school system, fenced in yard and a full basement for a reasonable price and after doing a lot of searching, I found one that was not even listed yet. I almost "gave up" that a house that I wanted existed. I did not find the house through a realtor.
When I went looking for a spouse through a single's ad at first I found someone that was more that I wanted, but then he decided he did not want to raise step-children and my income was too low and he called the relationship off. That is when I found my husband who loved children (the more the merrier) and had a higher income.
Each time God did above my expectations I don't follow protocol as far as a set of rules that normally other people do in dating. I find that when God brings the right person in my life, I don't have to worry about doing all the right things and pretending to be someone that I am not.
Unlike Jesus home town, I don’t want to limit God in my life! I like the below scripture where God says he will do beyond what we ask or thing. God has done way beyond my highest expectation even when it came to a relationship with my husband. How naturally we flowed together and even in going through all the blended family teenage issues. Like an ocean it had its high points and it low points. But we made that rugged terrain so he had the guts to make it work. Anyone who has raised seven teenagers will understand how difficult it is to raise teenagers!
I am counting on God, because in life, I find that history repeats itself. Many people study history --- it's a field of study. They even have a History television channel. I have found that many lessons in life are what to do, and what not to do, and one lesson that I have listed above is not to limit God with my faulty logic (thinking).
Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, Ephesians 3:20
And they were deeply offended and refused to believe in him. Then Jesus told them, "A prophet is honored everywhere except in his own hometown and among his own family." Matthew 13:57
