How Important Is Our Faith?

Jesus could not do many miracles in his own home town, but heal a few sick people, because of their unbelief, Mathew 13:58. A whole generation of the Children of Israel did not go into the promise land because of unbelief. (Hebrews 4:2 and 3:19)

With faith Jesus said that all things are possible, but it says without faith it's impossible to please God. Every man has been dealt (given) a measure of faith. So when God was dealing out a deck of cards in life he gave every man a measure of faith, it's how do we use that measure of faith. Romans 12:3

And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. Hebrews 11:6

I like how David used his faith, he said that he was still confident that he would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. He was not waiting for heaven.

I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Psalm 27:13

Jesus asked when he returns if he would find faith on the earth. This was right after his parable of the unjust judge and the widow that kept coming and asking to be avenged of her adversary. It was Jesus example of a persistence that men should always pray and not faint or give up hope. (And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, 'Grant me justice against my adversary.' Luke 18:3)

And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?" Luke 18:17-18

At times faith can become weaken, the Bible talks about those who are “weak in faith.” When I ask Christians how much they get in the word and study the word every day, many Christians don’t get in the word on a regular basis. In Ephesians it says to quench the firey darts of Satan, we are to take the shield of faith. If we are taking the shield of faith every morning, those firey dart will not get through. Our faith will stop them.

In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Ephesians 6:16

Accept him whose faith is weak, without passing judgment on disputable matters. Romans 14:1

My calling for forty years as a Christian has been evangelist -- I am a seed planter. I may water and reap at times, but most of the time, I scatter shoot seed / the word of God, and then I pray for the seed I’ve planted. Paul talked about these ministries. There may be someone else to harvest the crop that I planted, but when it comes to the street evangelism, going into girl’s prison, or encouraging the saints, it’s mostly planting God’s word. I’m not the person that followed up on people during that time in my life.

Sharing the word can be discouraging at times if you are only focused on results. This is not sales. I am looking to help others to bear good fruit in their life, but that is really not my responsibility. Noah preached in his generation and only saved his own household. Jeremiah did not have very many results in his generation. He was known as the weeping prophet. You could say that Jesus was not very successful to his own Jewish people.

I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made it grow. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow. 1 Cor. 3:6-7

Faith comes by hearing the message of God.....

Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ. But I ask: Did they not hear? Of course they did: "Their voice has gone out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world." Romans 10:17-18

To increase our faith is to increase the word of God in our lives because it says that “faith comes by the word.”

And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. Matthew 17:20

It only takes faith as small as a mustard seed to move a mountain so we don’t have to have a whole lot of faith to do a lot- just a little.
