My two-year old grandson loves Spiderman. It sort of reminds me of
these young men they interviewed from Japan that had seen Star Wars over
300 times. I have seen “enough” reruns of the Spiderman movies every day he is over at my house!
My commentary for Peter Parker for Spiderman 2 would be he needs to loosen up in life. It seems to me that Peter Parker is uptight as his Spandex suit.
He takes off the suit, throws it in the garbage can, and he wants to live a normal life. He even ignores a man getting beat up in an alley when he could have helped him.
It reminds me some of Tarzan I used to watch growing up. Chicks dig swinging through the air. I got to jump the highest bungy jump a few years ago in Queenstown, New Zealand. Zip Lining is on my list next.
Dump the whiny girlfriend Mary Jane who had problems with her dad telling her she was never going to amount to anything, and dump his rich guy friend who had daddy issues too in that he was not a high achiever like Peter in winning the Science award in high school. Oh wait, than Peter would not have very many friends.
Joshua when he came out of the wilderness of forty years with the whiny Children of Israel, he said he was stronger than ever to go in and take the land. That amazes me that a person can keep their integrity in spite of others around them. Daniel and the three Hebrew teens were like that.
I am still as strong today as the day Moses sent me out; I'm just as vigorous to go out to battle now as I was then. Joshua 14:11
What all fans will suggest is the same thing that we suggested for Scully and Mulder on the X-Files or Indiana Jones or anyone who is out there fighting the bad guys all the time is that they need to take time for romance. He also needs a little humor in his life. It says a cheerful heart is good medicine.
A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. Proverbs 17:22
Even the Super Single Apostle Paul said that he was capable of taking a wife. Paul could have gotten married if he wanted to. Maybe Paul was a little frustrated about people criticizing him for being single in a primary married society? Paul’s wife was the love of the ministry.
Don’t we have the right to take a believing wife along with us, as do the other apostles and the Lord’s brothers and Cephas? Or is it only I and Barnabas who lack the right to not work for a living? 1 Cor. 9:5-6
The Spiderman 2 movie was about burnout – a person who goes through burnout for helping others. For Peter Parker, it was because “with great power comes great responsibility.” We are told what we do good, expect God to pay us back when we feed the poor and to reward us. We don’t have to look for a man to pat us on the back.
Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9
I like to quote God’s word – not take it for granted. Jesus complained that the Pharisees did things to be seen of men. As long as my heart is in the right place (have a big heart) when I go and feed or clothe the homeless I say this scripture out loud:
Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will reward them for what they have done. Proverbs 19:17
Peter Parker was burning the candle on both ends. He decided to drop out from being a vigilante because he could not make his college classes on time, he could not make his girlfriend’s play presentations, his friend got upset with him for taking pictures of Spiderman because he believed he killed his dad, the editor of the newspaper was writing bad stuff, and he lost his job because he could not deliver pizza on time.
I can relate to burnout with raising six children, going to college, being a wife, and going to my children’s school and sporting events and church.
Peter Parker only had his own ability to draw from where we have the greater one inside of us and its says that as Jesus is so are we in this world. There are many days I’ve woke up and I know my own heart fails – my own strength fails. We count on the greater one who lives inside of us.
By this is love perfected with us, so that we may have confidence for the day of judgment, because as he is so also are we in this world. 1 John 4:17
