When I was a young Christian in my early 20’s, I used to tell people to believe God for the best or “shoot for the moon,” and if you end up on the telephone poll, “Well at least you had your expectations high!” I’ve decided that I want the moon. Not to be confused with being mooned.
Over a year ago, my friend Brandy, a guy friend, and myself were in a car and the moon was shining very bright at the end of the road. We were driving towards it, and it was like we could drive right into the moon at the end of the street. In the movie, It’s a Wonderful Life, George Bailey:
"George asks about her deepest wishes and then offers her a poetic, imaginative fantasy about lasso-ing the moon and bringing it down to Earth so that she can eat it - it's almost a marriage proposal: What is it you want, Mary? What do you want? You-you want the moon? Just say the word and I'll throw a lasso around it and pull it down. Hey, that's a pretty good idea. I'll give you the moon...Well, then you could swallow it. And it'll all dissolve, see. And the moon beams that shoot out of your fingers and your toes and the ends of your hair...Am I talking too much?"
In the movie Bruce Almighty, Bruce lassos the moon and it brings it lower for a better romantic atmosphere for his sweetheart.
James and John as disciples of Jesus were bold to ask Jesus if one could sit on his right hand and the other on the left hand in heaven. Jesus said that would be determined by his Father in heaven.
Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to him. "Teacher," they said, "we want you to do for us whatever we ask." What do you want me to do for you?" he asked. They replied, "Let one of us sit at your right and the other at your left in your glory." …..but to sit at my right or left is not for me to grant. These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared." Mark 10:35-37, 40
In the meantime, while I am waiting for God to give me the moon, I’ll ask for the nations for my inheritance and for God to tell me great and mighty things.
Ask of me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession. Psalm 2:8
Call to Me and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know. Jeremiah 33:3
When I was driving in Key West, Florida on the weekend, the ocean was a turquoise color. It made me think of this song below about the love of God. My next three blogs will be on how I believe I get the moon from God.

The Love Of God by MercyMe
The love of God is greater far
Than tongue or pen can ever tell
It goes beyond the highest star
And reaches to the lowest hell
The guilty pair, bowed down with care
God gave His Son to win
His erring child He reconciled
And pardoned from his sin
Could we with ink the ocean fill
And were the skies of parchment made
Were every stalk on earth a quill
And every man a scribe by trade
To write the love of God above
Would drain the ocean dry
Nor could the scroll contain the whole
Though stretched from sky to sky
Hallelujah
The love of God is greater far
Than tongue or pen can ever tell
It goes beyond the highest star
And reaches to the lowest hell
The guilty pair, bowed down with care
God gave His Son to win
His erring child He reconciled
And pardoned from his sin
Could we with ink the ocean fill
And were the skies of parchment made
Were every stalk on earth a quill
And every man a scribe by trade
To write the love of God above
Would drain the ocean dry
Nor could the scroll contain the whole
Though stretched from sky to sky
Hallelujah
O love of God, how rich and pure!
How measureless and strong!
It shall forevermore endure
The saints' and angels' song
