In the Star Wars movie, The Death Star was the ultimate weapon of mass destruction that could destroy life on a whole planet by blowing it up. If you are an accountant, bookkeeper or have a checkbook for your bank you have a reconciliation sheet. You have checks and balances and you are trying to reconcile your balance sheet or find your checking account balance. One thing you will find out for sudden and early death of a child or spouse or divorce, there is no reconciliation in your mind. I had three family members die of cancer, and I could reconcile that in my mind, but in sudden death it is a lot different.
A false balance is an abomination to the Lord, But a just weight is His delight. Proverbs 11:1
There is just something inside of you that says “I have been robbed.” It says the “last” enemy….the very last enemy Jesus will destroy is death. Death is an enemy, but if the person is a believer than we know where that person has gone. We have hope to see that person again.
The last enemy to be destroyed is death. 1 Cor. 15:26
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. John 10:10
Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope. We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him 1 Thess. 4:13-14
What helps me in the balance sheet in my mind is that for some reason I was on the same road as my husband, but then those roads separated and I look back to this scripture where Jesus told Peter that what John does is different than him. All of a sudden, there is a different path that person has taken in sudden death.
It reminds me of that statement in the Star Wars movie when Luke Skywalker was upset that Han Solo was not going to stick around for the final battle of the Rebel Alliance to destroy the Death Star and Princess Leia said, “He has to follow his own path.” Han later decided to stick around with them. Many people may decide to go off and do their own thing in life or they decide they want to work together as a team with the Body of Christ.
For some the choice was not their choice as far as an accident happened. For some you can trace back to diet could be a cause of a health problem and bad genetics. It goes back to not everyone has the same path and at times our paths can separate from another person.
Marriage is walking on the same road. Being on the same path and one day those paths will separate. Peter’s path separated from John.
Jesus answered, "If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me." John 21:22
Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me. John 12:26
In life or in dating you are looking at a person’s assets and liabilities. Does he have a good job? Does this woman whine and complain all the time. (A quarrelsome wife is as annoying as constant dripping on a rainy day. restraining her is like restraining the wind or grasping oil with the hand. Proverbs 27:15-16)
Is this person committed to Christ or is she/he lukewarm? What value system does this person have?
Does this woman like sex? Does the man like affection? Does this person have a good sense of humor? Is this person fault finding and judgmental? Does he have anger problems? (A person without self-control is like a city with broken-down walls. Proverbs 25:28)
Does he/she have to be right all the time? “Their way or the high-way.” Love seeks not it’s own way. 1 Cor. 13:5
Will I be comfortable around this person? Can I trust this person? Is this person capable of making a commitment for the long haul? (If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. Matthew 5:41)
Has he/she dealt with his/her past relationships? (Honor your father and mother"--which is the first commandment with a promise—Ephesians 6:2)
What is this person’s relationship track record? If you are going to bet on a good race horse, you want to put your hard earned money on a horse that is going to perform. Same way with putting your money in the stock money, what stocks are going to perform? How much investment am I going to get back? Does this person give 100% to their work, to their family to what they put their hand to do? Do they put their whole heart into what they do? (Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart as working for the Lord, not for men.”~ Colossians 3:23)
Once in a while life throws you a curve ball and there is something in your mind that says, “That does not compute.” It reminds me of the robot on Lost in Space, “Danger Will Robinson” and “That does not compute.” So are we just lost in life and in the time space continuum?
No, we are in a war and that last enemy is death. Sickness and disease is an enemy. Sin is an enemy. Sin is selfishness and selfishness is an enemy. Jesus conquered sin, sickness and disease and death as far as the sting of death. The scorpion of death still stings those of us who have lost our loved ones, but we know that “Christ is in us and he is the hope of glory." (Colossians 1:27)
Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?" The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 1 Cor. 15:55-56
Only in this way could he set free all who have lived their lives as slaves to the fear of dying. Hebrews 2:15
I declare to you, brothers, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. But let me reveal to you a wonderful secret. We will not all die, but we will all be transformed in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 1 Cor. 15:51-54
