Play it Safe? Blackbird Waiting to Fly:

Many of us have an adventurous spirit and mine started when I was little girl at five years old. It was playing with my next door neighbor, Steve, in jumping skate board ramps, riding the handle bars of our bikes, climbing trees, we pushed the limits when it came to having fun.  Before my husband and I were married, he broke his ribs snowmobiling with his work friends. He always had that adventurous spirit and we were equally yoked that way.

There are many people who will adventure out of the nest of their own country, and my daughter Paula did, and so did my son Jason. About every time I turn around, there is some typhoon on Facebook he lists with living in Hong Kong. My daughter Paula and Jason were in Australia previously for three years and my daughter now is in Los Angeles. My children have traveled around Europe, Vietnam and other countries, and I’m excited that although I only left the nest for a short time to travel around the U.S. in a missionary group, my children got to do many of the things that I never did.

Many people limit themselves to living and working in Indiana all their life, but it’s not just limiting themselves to Indiana, it’s limiting their educational possibilities, and next it’s limiting their spiritual potential. Paul talked about “the high calling of God.” Philip 3:14.

It says “the people that do know their God will be strong and do exploits, Daniel 11:32.”

Jesus said that “nothing is impossible with God.” We see that Jesus home town folk hindered him from doing miracles and he only healed a few sick folk (Mark 6:5). How am I limiting God in my life? I asked the Lord about healing, and He said I better be praying for a headache, before I start putting my faith against cancer. So I started praying for knee pain and I’ve been free from knee pain (arthritis) for two years. I prayed many years about my eyes and finally got a peace to go get Lasik surgery done and it greatly improved the quality of my life. I experienced a blessing in not having to use glasses or contacts anymore. It’s God’s will that we be whole people. (Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers. 3 John 1:2)

Jesus asked a man, “Would you be made whole” John 5:6. That leads me to believe that Jesus wants us whole and it’s really up to us.

Did Jesus condemn his disciples for being discontented about not catching fish? I remember my dad I went to Big Round Lake in Wisconsin when I was a child for his vacation. Fishing all day and did not catch anything the week of his vacation. Sometimes we fished in the rain. Then people next to our campsite were cooking fish. We had to smell that fresh cook fish when were hungry and cold and wet. Having someone meet their partner in life after one year when you have been faithfully fishing for four years is like them waiving their fresh catch of the day in front of you. Those people did not offer us any fish, but they told us where to go catch us some fish. Sometimes you have to change your bait/lure.

Love is patient, love is kind. "It does not envy," it does not boast, it is not proud. 1 Cor. 13:4

What do you think the Scriptures mean when they say that the spirit God has placed within us is "filled with envy?" But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: "God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble." James 4:5

The scripture above says that God gives us more grace when we are tempted to envy. Jesus knew where the fish were biting. One time he asked them to let him use their boat and then told them to put their net down. I hear singles condemn others and ministers condemn others for wanting to go to church to meet a wife. Jesus did not condemn his disciples for fishing all night and catching nothing. In fact, Jesus told them where to cast their net --- he told them where to fish. Jesus even cooked breakfast for them. He was just beaten, crucified, and rose from the dead, but yet he was considerate and humble to cook breakfast for his disciples.

Jesus said to them, "Come and have breakfast." None of the disciples dared ask him, "Who are you?" They knew it was the Lord. John 21:12

It’s because Jesus is considerate of our needs, desires and wants and he is considerate of loss. I find that many people are not. Jesus does not have you open up your heart and then stomp on it. He warned about people who are like swine in this world. They don’t care about you, but they just want to scam you for what they can take from you. They are more concerned about their own agenda.

Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and then turn and tear you to pieces. Matthew 7:6

I woke up recently and I heard “Be strong in the Lord.” I know God was talking about in Ephesians 6. Stand in His strength. I know what God is talking about robing myself up in prayer, becoming a better prayer warrior. (Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Ephesian 6:10….v. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.).

I heard a while back that a church failure is a prayer failure. Same can be the same when it comes to marriage. I know if marriage was built on prayer, more couples would stay together. My husband and I prayed together every night on a regular basis for the children and for our ex-spouses and for other people’s needs. I miss my accountability partner. He held me accountable in many ways like June Carter said to Johnny Cash, “Walk the Line.”

There are some people that choose dangerous careers, the CIA, police, fireman, stunt men, scuba diver instructors, or just some of these hazardous jobs people have done to support their family like coal mining. Many people put their lives on the line every day and they are hoping and praying that putting themselves on the line will not cost them their life.

Part of those crazy things goes back to that adventurous spirit that can’t be tamed by the Pharisees could not limit Jesus to their doctrines. We may be a bird temporary with her wings cut, but just because we are sitting down on the outside, does not mean we are sitting down on the inside. It’s fighting discouragement that comes against you whether it’s through circumstances or people, but I find when I face it with prayer, things go a whole lot better in my life.

Joshua said to them, "Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Be strong and courageous. This is what the Lord will do to all the enemies you are going to fight." Then Joshua struck and killed the kings and hung them on five trees, and they were left hanging on the trees until evening. Joshua 10:25-26
